Nick Cannon Teases 'Fantasy/Fairytale' Project With Mariah Carey

'We're both kids at heart,' he says of working with his superstar wife on a family-friendly animated project.

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon might soon be working together on a top-secret project. The proud parents of Dem Babies are hooking up for a spankin'-new endeavor that will focus on family.

While the details of the venture are slim, Cannon shared that it will certainly pay homage to their year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe.

"Yeah we actually got some stuff in development that we're working on, some animated stuff that her and I are putting together," he told MTV News. "So you'll definitely see her in that space too. Oh yeah, it's just something that we both enjoy, and even more so than that, we're both kids at heart. So we love those types of stories and fantasy/fairytale type of stuff."

Before Cannon explores fairytales with Carey, he serves as the executive producer on the forthcoming Nickelodeon flick, "Rags," a hip take on Cinderella, complete with gender role reversals. It features Nick stars Keke Palmer, Max Schneider and Drake Bell. The network chairman explains that you should expect more and more family-friendly programming influenced by his own real-life role as dad.

"I mean it's one of those things where a lot of the stuff I'm going to be doing in the near future is going to be really family-driven just because of the fact being a father and wanting to be able to provide content for my kids," he said. "So it works out really good. It makes you proud when you can have some work that your kids can go see."

In addition to "Rags" and his untitled project with Carey, Cannon just signed on to make his directorial debut with "School Dance," which will follow in the vein of "Friday" and "House Party." Variety reports it will revolve around a teen who wants to join the coolest dance clique in school, though he fears his stage fright will prevent him from passing initiation.

While it seems that Cannon is focused on making projects his kids can watch, it might be a while before Roc and Roe check out "School Dance."

'Even Superman has to sleep,' Cannon says about cutting back his work schedule.

Amid new health concerns, Nick Cannon has announced that he will step down as host of his morning show on 92.3 Now. The DJ/rapper made the announcement early Friday morning (February 17).

"Under doctor's orders, I have been asked to put my health first and cut back on some of my professional commitments in order to allow my body to get the rest that it needs to keep up with the demands of my multi-tasking schedule," he said in a statement.

"It has been an absolute pleasure working with CBS Radio and the 92.3 NOW morning show team and I would like to thank them for their unwavering support," he said, adding that while he will no longer host his daily show, he will still host his weekly countdown show. "I will continue to host my syndicated 'Cannon's Countdown' weekend show and look forward to contributing to 92.3 NOW whenever possible. Even Superman has to sleep."

The station has announced that for the time being, DJ Lil Cee will replace Cannon. "We respect and understand Nick's decision to step down from his day-to-day position as host of Morning Drive on 92.3 NOW, and fully support him as he takes on a less demanding role with the station in order to address his health," they said. "Everyone at the station and all of the CBS RADIO family wish him well, and look forward to his continuing contributions to 92.3 NOW."

The news comes after Cannon revealed he had been hospitalized last week for a slew of new health issues. "It's my first day back since Friday, and not many people have known this but, uh ... I've been in the hospital since Friday," he said on his radio show on Wednesday. "I was having a lot of pain in my back ... I learned that I had blood clots in my lungs ... an enlarged ventricle in the right side of my heart."

On Friday morning, he took to Twitter as he prepped to say goodbye to his morning show. "A bitter sweet morning. I have to stop my radio show. Doctors orders," he tweeted. "The Doctors found blood clots in my lungs and said if I don't slow down and stop working so hard then it's a wrap!"

Cannon had been hospitalized over the holidays for kidney failure but seemed to be doing better. In an interview with MTV News weeks after the incident, he shared what was believed to have contributed to the hospitalization.

"I always considered myself as someone who was in great shape, but I was doing too much [to my body] so my immune system got confused and just started attacking my kidneys," Cannon said in mid-January, pledging to focus on a healthier lifestyle. "You look at my Twitter picture and I look like I'm in shape, but I was putting the wrong stuff into my body, speeding all the time, not sleeping and eating properly. It's all about taking time and really caring about yourself and how you fuel yourself."

Nick Cannon Focuses On Kids After Health Scare

During his recent hospital stay for treatment of kidney failure, Nick Cannon got plenty of support from his wife, Mariah Carey — he referred to her as his "angel" during our interview — but his twins Moroccan and Monroe were also a key part of the entertainer's decision to adapt a healthier lifestyle. During his first day back at the office on Tuesday, Cannon told MTV News that his health scare intensified the way he feels about his family.

"Right now my kids are everything — they're always going to be everything, but when something like this happens to you, everything else is shut out and you're just focused on them," he said. "So every second you just notice so many things ... it just makes it so much more poignant. I love everything that they do and just want to be a part of everything." Cannon, who has temporarily adapted a strict renal diet, said that his time in the hospital made all of the important things very clear. "There's a second where you're thinking, 'What if I'm not able to instill the things I want to instill into my children?' It just makes you think, like, 'I need to give them everything I could possibly give them right now,' and obviously it starts with love." The radio and stand-up comedy host was hospitalized during a vacation with his family in Aspen, Colorado, after experiencing severe pains in his lower back. Doctors initially suspected kidney stones as the culprit, before more tests showed that his kidneys were shutting down due to an overdose of protein, medication he was taking and a lack of proper sustenance. Exclusive: Nick Cannon Talks 'Healthy Living'

'I don't get to eat the things that I like,' Cannon says in first on-camera interview since his hospitalization.

On Tuesday (January 17) Nick Cannon returned to the office for his first day back to work after being hospitalized for kidney failure two weeks ago. After an initial diagnosis of kidney stones, doctors determined that Cannon's kidneys were beginning to fail thanks to an overdose of protein, medication he was taking and a lack of proper sustenance. Sitting at his desk, Cannon told MTV News that his road to recovery includes a new diet, which forces him to cut back on some of his favorite eats.

"I'm feeling good, I'm in the office, I'm grinding, the only thing that sucks is that I'm on the renal diet," Cannon said. "It's all about healthy living and fueling your system, but I don't get to eat the things that I like to eat. You've got to stay hydrated and [eat] fruits and vegetables for breakfast."

After admitting that a more typical breakfast would usually include Lucky Charms cereal ("I can't have none of that stuff anymore"), Cannon explained that simple foods like oats are now on the menu.

"Not even the good oatmeal," Cannon said. "Real oats, like horse-feed stuff — but it's cool. I've got to start to love it."

According to Cannon, the diet will be implemented in phases, and as his body slowly recovers, he'll be able to incorporate Lucky Charms and other banned foods into his regimen once again.

"Right now I'm still on the strict diet and I can't have any sodium, but as a couple of weeks go by and everything gets leveled out, then I can start having low sodium," he said, revealing that hot sauce has been his solution for adding spice to his diet. "I can still have Tabasco sauce, so I'm excited about that because I love hot sauce. I'll be putting Tabasco sauce on carrots, like, 'This tastes delicious!' "

Dietary restrictions aside, the entertainment mogul and father of two is also reassessing his approach to healthy living. His hesitation to visit doctors, for example, is out the door. "I feel 100 percent right now, but obviously the doctors tell you to take it slow," he said. "This is definitely the first time anything like this has ever happened to me. I've always thought that I was doing the right things, but that's why I now encourage everybody to get checkups, get physicals, know what's going on in your system and don't play around with your body.

Nick Cannon Tells Howard Stern He's Feeling 'Good'

Cannon said he had some serious kidney issues, but is on the mend.

Two weeks after a hospitalization for kidney issues, Nick Cannon got on the radio with Howard Stern on Tuesday (January 17) morning to discuss his recent health scare  and bury the hatchet on his feud with the satellite-radio star.

On his first day back on the radio in New York, Cannon revealed that his doctors originally thought he had gotten acute mountain sickness while visiting Aspen, Colorado, over the holidays. But after a series of tests, they realized it was kidney-related, and a bit more serious than they realized. "They thought it was kidney stones, then a kidney infection," explained Cannon. "They found out my kidneys were not functioning well. So we said 'mild kidney failure.'"

Cannon said he has a couple more procedures he needs to undergo, but overall, "I'm good. I'm feeling 100 percent." Stern joked with Cannon that the DJ/radio/TV host/stand-up comedian/sitcom actor and entrepreneur needs to slow down in order to avoid another health issue. "Because of this situation, I know that I don't need to go so hard," said Cannon. "It's more about just my way of living ... It's really about taking some time."

Cannon was transferred to an L.A.-area facility after initially being hospitalized in Aspen, where he was vacationing with wife Mariah Carey, and their twins, Moroccan and Monroe. "As always, he's in good spirits considering the situation," Carey said  at the time about her hubby, noting that he was "in a lot of pain" and that "the situation is not easy. We really appreciate everybody's love and support."

The formerly battling pair (Cannon beefed with Stern after he felt the shock jock had insulted Carey and questioned Cannon's radio skills) teamed up for the joint interview to discuss not only Cannon's illness, but their upcoming gig working together on "America's Got Talent." 

Stern has famously complained for years about how exhausting his early morning radio hours are and he shared his anxiety about pulling double-duty on his signature satellite gig and "Talent" once the reality competition kicks off auditions next month. "I could not do your schedule and have the pressures of two young kids at home," said Stern about Cannon juggling work with taking care of the couple's twins. 

"When you got ill, I seriously debated not doing the show," said Stern about "Talent," which is moving to New York this season to accommodate the radio giant's schedule. "You are an excellent host."

Stern also pressed Cannon to talk about his liaisons with Kim Kardashian and (allegedly) Lindsay Lohan, but in the end the former playboy said it is love of his life Carey who he is hopelessly devoted to.

"I'm happier than happy," said Cannon of his marriage to the woman he said was one of his idols growing up. "Especially though this entire process, we've become so much closer ... I even got a chance to see a different side of my wife where she became so nurturing. I'm in debt to her forever. "

Apparently you can't keep Nick Cannon down for long. Just days after being hospitalized for mild kidney failure, the TV personality let his fans know he's ready to put it all behind him.

Cannon took to Twitter to post a photo of himself in the hospital, getting his hair cut. He tweeted simply, "getting back to business." He later took to the social networking site to promote some of his pals who were DJing in Los Angeles.

One of Cannon's DJ friends spoke to People.com about his condition. "I was beyond shocked when I learned Nick had a kidney issue," DJ Irie said. "Of all the people, he is healthy beyond belief. He does not drink, he eats healthy and he works out regularly." The cause of Cannon's kidney failure is still unknown, and his friend reiterated just how well he takes care of himself. "Nick practices all of these healthy habits every day of his life," he said. "But he is rational and smart and taking care of it by being in the hospital, where he belongs now."

On Wednesday, Nick Cannon made headlines when his wife, Mariah Carey, confirmed on Twitter that he had been hospitalized for kidney failure. Now she's updating fans on his condition, which seems to be improving.

"As always, he's in good spirits considering the situation," she told People.com. "We are hopeful that he'll be 100 percent as soon as possible." While little is known about what caused Cannon to go into mild kidney failure, Carey added "the situation is not easy" and that Cannon is stable but "in a lot of pain."

"We really appreciate everybody's love and support," she continued.

Cannon had remained rather quiet since the news broke of his hospitalization, but did share on Twitter that he was being moved from an Aspen, Colorado, hospital to Los Angeles. "Currently being [transferred] to a hospital in LA. Thank you all for all your love, prayers and concern," he wrote. "You know me ... I will be a'ight."

Carey and Cannon, along with their twins, Moroccan and Monroe, had been vacationing in the Colorado ski town when the "America's Got Talent" host was hospitalized. "This is us in the hospital — role reversal; Last year it was me attached to the machines (after having dembabies) and Nick was there with me through it, and now here we are," she wrote on Wednesday, including a photo of herself visiting him in the hospital. "We're trying to be as festive as possible under the circumstances but please keep Nick in your thoughts because this is very painful."

Nick Cannon has been hospitalized for mild kidney failure, his superstar wife, Mariah Carey, confirmed on Twitter early Wednesday (January 4).

"Please pray for Nick as he's fighting to recover from a mild kidney failure. #mybraveman," Carey tweeted. She also included a photo of herself lying by Cannon's side in his hospital bed. The couple were vacationing in Colorado at the time of Cannon's hospitalization. (They were recently spotted in Aspen with their twins, Moroccan and Monroe.)

In a lengthier statement, Carey further addressed Nick's condition. "This is us in the hospital - role reversal; Last year it was me attached to the machines (after having dembabies) and Nick was there with me through it, and now here we are," she wrote. "We're trying to be as festive as possible under the circumstances but please keep Nick in your thoughts because this is very painful. They tried to kick me out of the hospital but here I am pon de bed with Mr. C."

Carey even used some light humor when talking about her husband's condition. "We're doing OK but we're 'straaaaaanded in Aspen.' #DramaticDivaPlace (I know, we could be in a lot worse places) but the truth is as long as we're together, we're OK," she said. "I'm not trying to make light out of the situation because it's a serious moment that's very tough on all of us so please keep us and our family in your prayers. LYM."

A rep for Cannon had no further comment about his condition when asked by MTV News.

Couple opened up about parenthood on '20/20' special with Barbara Walters.

Back in May, Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon welcomed their twins, Moroccan and Monroe, into the world. And months after their birth, the happy parents sat down with Barbara Walters on Friday for a "20/20" special, where they debuted their bundles of joy.

Nicknamed "Dem Babies," the twins were born via C-section on the couple's three-year wedding anniversary as Carey's track "Fantasy" played. However, the pregnancy itself wasn't much of a fantasy for the superstar. "I don't think I understood the enormity and the magnitude of what it really does to your body," she told Walters. "Carrying two babies. Unless somebody's been through it, it's difficult to understand what I went through, because my pregnancy was very unique in terms of what happened to me.

"I had serious back problems," she continued. "I was afraid I wasn't going to be able to walk properly again. It was a huge strain."

Carey first confirmed she was pregnant last October after lots of speculation; she also opened up about her struggles to get pregnant. So when it came time to welcome her babies into the world, she wanted it to be a happy experience.

"They came into the world to a live version [of 'Fantasy']," she said, "and the only reason I wanted it to be the live version is because I wanted them to hear the applause upon entering the world."

Cannon expressed equal amounts of excitement over their family, telling Walters during the special, "My family gives me everything. Unconditional love means ... the world to me. I mean, it's completion."

Shortly after the special aired, the couple launched a website for the babies, dembabies.com, where they take fans inside their family through pictures.

"We deliberated for so long about how to reveal the first pictures of our babies to the world. We just didn't want to do the typical thing and display them in a tabloid (not that there's anything wrong with that)," a statement on the site reads. "We decided to share this beautiful experience with you in a special intimate portrait of our family. Parenthood is absolutely the most life changing experience we could ever have imagined. The love we feel for these babies is above and beyond anything we'd ever dreamed of."

Talk about your perfect timing. Mariah Carey gave birth to twins on Saturday morning, which also happened to be her third wedding anniversary. The boy and girl were born at around 9 a.m. Los Angeles time and weighed just over five pounds each, according to Carey's spokesperson.

The singer, 41, and husband Nick Cannon, 30, were married on April 30, 2008, and spokesperson Cindi Berger said in a statement, "babies were born on their wedding anniversary ... not even Mariah could plan that!" Berger said the girl was born first and then the boy, but that their names have not yet been revealed.

Singer/actor Cannon was ecstatic about the birth, tweeting, "My wife just gave me the most incredible anniversary gift ever in life! I won't ever be able to top this!" He later added, "I'm in the happiest place I've ever been in my life. I never had more amazing things happening. I am humbled by God's favor."

Cannon drove Carey to the hospital in their Rolls-Royce Phantom, according to Berger, who described the singer as calm after going through false labor previously. The dad-to-be, however, was so nervous he went to the wrong department at the hospital and then had to be guided to the maternity ward by a nurse.

"It was like right out of an 'I Love Lucy' skit," said Berger. The couple listened to Carey's "We Belong Together" after the twins were born and were expected to renew their vows on Sunday.

The happy couple got plenty of well-wishes on Twitter, with Nicki Minaj writing, "Congratulations Mariah & Nick!!!!!!!!! The twins have finally landed on earth!!! Yaaayyyyy!!!!! @MariahCarey mmmuuuuaaahhhh!!!!!!"

Her old pals and musical partners in Boyz II Men added, "Just got the news! Congrats Mr and Mrs Cannon on ur twin babies!! Look forward to sleepless nights for the next few weeks, trust me lol!"

Super-producer Rodney Jerkins wrote, "Congratulations to @MariahCarey and @NickCannon May God bless you and the 2 lil ones!!! Rj and @OfficialJoy."

Jermaine Dupri tweeted, "CONGRATS!!! to Nick and @mariahcarey on the birth of a baby girl and boy," and pregnant actress Alyssa Milano wrote, "Congrats! @MariahCarey & @NickCannon celebrate 4th anniversary becoming parents: http://mariah.is/mlSnAj /via @lil_red_man."
