<P>Becoming a dad changes things. After a lot of rumors and speculation, <a href="http://rapfix.mtv.com/2011/07/06/bow-wow-admits-to-being-a-father-in-letter-to-fans/">Bow Wow admitted last year</a> on his website that he had fathered his first child, a baby girl named Shai.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Bow Wow Opens Up About Fatherhood" id="vid:728303.id:1677862" width="240" height="211"></div><p></P><P>At first, the 24-year-old rapper hid the truth because he was "nervous" about how his fans, who have been following him since he first debuted at 13 years old, would look at him. On Wednesday's "RapFix Live," Bow (real name: Shad Gregory Moss) had no reservations about opening up about fatherhood.</P><P>"For me, it's just the quality time I get. I'm Bow Wow all the time. To the world, I'm Bow Wow. When I leave here and I go to L.A. and I go to my daughter's house and I sit with her, I feel like Shad. I'm not Bow; I'm daddy," he told MTV News correspondent Sway. "It's, like, the illest feeling in the world. I feel like I'm away from everything."</P><P>The feeling has even spilled over into the studio. On his <a href="/news/articles/1677927/bow-wow-making-underrated.jhtml">upcoming album, <i>Underrated,</i></a> Bow said he will include "Boy or Girl," a previously released mixtape <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWGdeoGQIak" target="_blank">track</a> on which he rhymes about being a dad. "The record just hit home, because it was just honest. Right then, I was like, 'Yo, I have to make honest records. I gotta be more personal, I gotta be more honest,' " Bow said. <P><a href="/music/artist/bow_wow/artist.jhtml">Bow Wow</a> has grown up in hip-hop, but in order to deliver his upcoming seventh album, <i>Underrated,</i> the Cash Money MC had to go through some real-life experiences.</P><P>"I feel like with this album, it's so different, because I had to live life to make this album," the 24-year old rapper told Sway when he visited <a href="http://www.mtv.com/specials/rapfix_live/main.jhtml">"RapFix Live"</a> on Wednesday.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Bow Wow Opens Up About Fatherhood" id="vid:728303.id:1677862" width="240" height="211"></div><p></P><P>"I had to go through a lot of things for me to be able to write the type of things I'm writing now, to understand my fans, to be on the ground level. Not above my people, but right there with my people," he continued. "I would probably need another three years to live before I can create another one. Just so I could go through different things."</P><P>As far as the album title, Bow used it as motivation. "The more and more I kept sayin' the word 'underrated,' I realized how many others of millions of people out there probably tuning in right now who probably feel like they're underrated," he said. "I'm sure there is an underground rapper out there who can rap hard and he want his break."</P><P>Despite all his platinum plaques and sold-out tours, Bow Wow still feels like he doesn't get his just due. He hopes that will change once the album drops. Bow recently debuted the first video from the album, for <a href="http://rapfix.mtv.com/2011/10/21/detail-talks-making-of-bow-wow-and-lil-waynes-sweat/">"Sweat" with Lil Wayne</a>, and he has already clocked in collaborations with Lloyd Banks. <P><b>Behind the Beats: Detail</b></P><P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bow_wow/artist.jhtml">Bow Wow</a> has a bone to pick with the industry. After breaking into rap as a kid at the age of 13 in 2000, the now grown-up Bow is feeling a little <i>Underrated,</i> as the title of his upcoming December 6 Cash Money album suggests.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Lil Wayne, Bow Wow Collabo Almost Didn't Happen" id="vid:704038" width="240" height="211"></div><p></P><P>For his latest single, "Sweat," the now 24-year-old Bow Wow recruited <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lil_wayne/artist.jhtml">Lil Wayne</a> for a feature and producer Detail for the track.</P><P>"Obviously everybody knows I got a very diverse sound -- I can do pop, I can do rock, I can do hip-hop, R&B," the very confident <a href="/news/articles/1664713/lil-wayne-how-to-love.jhtml">"How to Love"</a> beatmaker told <i>Mixtape Daily.</i> "For me it's just a matter of studying the artist and kinda coming up with a formula that's more natural for them."</P><P>On "Sweat," Detail laid a slow-rolling, pulsating pop track for Bow, who often seems to struggle with getting fans to accept that he is no longer the little pup he once was. Bow sings in Auto-Tune over the track, creating an aura of sexual seduction with his explicit lyrics. Wayne of course adds his unique brand of flirtatious, double-timed raps.</P><P>As good as the single sounds, Detail told <i>Mixtape Daily</i> that the collaboration almost didn't come to pass. Wayne and Bow Wow had already cut a record together, and Young Money president Mack Maine was in no big rush to make a second track. That changed when Detail sent him the beat after the two talked at Wayne's <i>Tha Carter IV</i> release party in Los Angeles.</P><P>"At Lil Wayne's <i>Carter IV</i> release party, I was talking to [Maine] about the 'Sweat' record. He hadn't even heard [it]. He was like, '[Wayne] already got a record with Bow Wow,' " Detail recalled of his and Mack's conversation.</P><P>Given Detail's track record for crafting hit singles with Young Money, Mack agreed to listen to the beat, which the producer sent him right away. "He hit me back and said, 'Damn that bitch is a beast,' " Detail said. But back when she was 17 years old, an out-of-control house party nearly destroyed one of her father's own coveted awards. On the season premiere of <a href="http://www.mtv.com/shows/when_i_was_17/series.jhtml">"When I Was 17,"</a> airing this Saturday at 11 a.m. ET, Caillat tells all about that night.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Colbie Caillat Recalls Breaking Father's Grammy" id="vid:682760.id:1669234" width="240" height="211"></div><p></P><P>"When I was 17, we used to have parties at my parents' house all the time. This one time, hundreds and hundreds of people showed up at my house, and we thought it was really cool because it was like, 'Oh my god, all these people came!' " Caillat recalls.</P><P>The more people piled in though, the more difficult it became to keep the party under control.</P><P>"Everyone was drinking way too much, and a huge fight broke out. It was just one of those crazy parties," she says. "Different schools, no one got along. And this one guy jumped on my parents' pool table and jumped off of it to tackle this other guy, which then they hit into the wall, and there was blood on the wall. And alcohol was spit on our pool table, the front door got broken, stuff got stolen."</P><P>The front door wasn't the only thing that got broken though. "The worst part about it is that my dad's Grammy was up above our TV, and during the party, it got knocked over and it fell on the ground and broke in half," Caillat recalls.</P><P>So, how did Caillat's father react after he learned his trophy had been split in two? <P>At 17 years old, <a href="/music/artist/bow_wow/artist.jhtml">Bow Wow</a> bought himself his first car &#8212; a Maserati &#8212; but that doesn't mean he was able to drive it. On the season premiere of <a href="http://www.mtv.com/shows/when_i_was_17/series.jhtml">"When I Was 17"</a> this Saturday at 11 a.m. ET, the hip-hop star recalls how his initial attempt at taking the driver's license exam didn't exactly go as planned.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Bow Wow Recalls Driving-Test Woes" id="vid:682759.id:1669234" width="240" height="211"></div><p></P><P>"When I was 17, it was time for me to step it up and walk in the DMV and go ahead and get my license," Bow Wow says. "Walked in, sat at the computer, doing the test, doing the test. They start asking the feet: 'How far do you have to stand behind the car?' Now, this is killing my brain right now. The next thing you know, the computer tells me [to] go see the lady at the desk, and I'm thinking, 'All right. I passed.' "</P><P>Not quite. While Bow Wow, who at 17 already had a successful career with a couple of albums under his belt, felt confident he'd aced the exam, the results showed otherwise.</P><P>"Went up there, was as arrogant as possible, like, 'I'm ready. Where do I go take my picture at?' " he explains. "And the lady said, 'No. You failed.' I was like, 'What?' "</P><P>Bow Wow may have been surprised, but his mother was not. "I told him, 'Bow, you have to study this driver's book,' " his mother, Teresa, recalls.</P><P>Of course, her son didn't take the advice.</P><P>"I was really hurt because that's every 17-year-old's dream is to get their license," Bow Wow says.</P><P>He didn't give up, though. Bow Wow, who ended up purchasing the Maserati anyway after failing the test, tried again &#8212; and again. <P><a href="/news/articles/1663922/cali-swag-district-m-bone-shooting-death.jhtml">Cali Swag District's Mante "M-Bone" Talbert</a> had his life and career tragically cut short when he was killed in a drive-by shooting in Inglewood, California, on Sunday. M-Bone may have only made his rap debut last year, but the 22-year-old has left a lasting impact on those he collaborated with.</P><P><a href="/music/artist/bob_2/artist.jhtml">B.o.B</a>, along with <a href="/music/artist/dupri_jermaine/artist.jhtml">Jermaine Dupri</a>, <a href="/music/artist/red_cafe/artist.jhtml">Red Caf&#233;</a> and <a href="/music/artist/bow_wow/artist.jhtml">Bow Wow</a>, appeared on the official remix of Cali Swag's platinum hit "Teach Me How to Dougie" and remarked on M-Bone's positive demeanor. "You know, just from me, the time that I did work with him and just being around him, they definitely had a really good vibe," Bobby Ray said. "He was the one; he brought a lot of the life with the dance moves. He was really innovative in that aspect of it. Initially, when I heard about the news &#8212; when you hear it, it's almost like, damn, you don't even want to believe it."</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="B.o.B Remembers Cali Swag District's M-Bone" id="vid:653385.id:1663984" width="240" height="211"></div><p></P><P>Red Caf&#233; echoed a similar sentiment for the fallen hip-hop star. "It was just a lot of fun, especially shooting the video. It was a whole lot of fun," Red said of the "Dougie" remix clip. "And M-Bone, he was killin' the dance, he was tryin' to teach me how to Dougie. He was definitely the dopest one, dancing-wise."</P><P>"I believe that he was the one that they all looked to, to learn how to do the Dougie," Dupri said. "Everyone was about it, but he was the one who went hard with it."</P><P>M-Bone hasn't rapped on any of Cali Swag's released material but provided the quartet with much of its energy, according to JD. "He was instrumental at showing people the dances," Dupri said. "He was the main inspiration behind the creative dances that ultimately defined the group. He was the fourth member, who didn't rap, but played his position by taking the lead on creating unique dances."</P><P>Police are still investigating Talbert's murder. TMZ reported that <a href="/news/articles/1664017/m-bone-cali-swag-district-shot-jealous-man.jhtml">Bone was possibly murdered by a "jealous man"</a> who threatened Talbert over Twitter. An unnamed woman claiming to be M-Bone's girlfriend told the site that the man lived in their apartment complex and was envious of the success M-Bone had with Cali Swag District.</P><P>As of Tuesday morning (May 17), the Inglewood Police homicide division could not confirm any of this information to MTV News, and at press time, the <a href="http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2011/05/m-bone-cali-swag-district.html" target="_blank"><i>Los Angeles Times</i></a> reported that detectives had no solid motive for the murder or clear suspects, though they have talked to several witnesses.</P><P>The Inglewood Police Department is asking anyone with information to come forward and call its homicide division at (310) 412-5246 or its 24-hour anonymous hot line at (888) 41 CRIME, or (888) 412-7463.</P><P>Stay tuned to MTV News for further details as this story develops.</p>

On Tuesday night, Chris Brown and Bow Wow kicked off some pre-Turkey Day festivities with a free concert for their Atlanta-area fans.</P><P>Decked out in a slate-gray suit and white kicks, Breezy rocked tracks like his <i>Graffiti</i> joint "I Can Transform Ya," flanked by similarly dapper backup dancers as he turned out his signature athletic choreography.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Chris Brown, Bow Wow Perform For Charity " id="vid:600839" width="240" height="211"></div><p></P><P>The "Deuces" singer said he was down to gift concertgoers with a high-octane performance just in time for the holidays.</P><P>"It was fun, I had a great time," Brown told MTV News. "I love giving back to the fans and everybody who got to come out who really don't get a chance to come out and go to concerts and things like that."</P><P>Also at the event, which was organized by beatsmith Polow Da Don and featured a carnival and turkey giveaway, was Breezy's homey and fellow hitmaker Bow Wow. The Cash Money MC said he didn't need any convincing to rock the crowd alongside his <a href="/news/articles/1542790/chris-brown-reunites-with-bow-wow-on-new-track.jhtml">"Shortie Like Mine"</a> collaborator &#8212; especially if it meant bringing some holiday cheer to deserving fans.</P><P>"It was only right that I came out, supported the homey," Bow said. Despite his seemingly laid-back schedule, the Young Money/ Cash Money leader has cautioned his prot&#233;g&#233;s to steer clear of trouble. Jail is no place for successful rappers, according to Wayne. During a visit to the incarcerated MC, <a href="/news/articles/1618850/bow-wow-joins-cash-money.jhtml">Bow Wow, who joined Weezy's camp</a> last year, said Wayne urged him and Young Money star Drake to stay on their best behavior.</P><P>"One thing he told me when I went to visit him, he was like ... 'Bow, this ain't for us, this ain't it. This ain't built for cats like us. They don't understand us, we don't understand them. Don't do it man, just stay out of trouble. You and Drizzy, y'all stay clean, y'all stay doing what y'all do.
