Christina Aguilera may have finished work on her new album, but that doesn't mean she's rushing to get it into stores. Producer Tricky Stewart, who worked with Aguilera on the still-untitled album, reveals that she wants to film her new movie, "Burlesque," before she puts the LP out there.

"The album is finished. She's mixing. She hasn't made a final decision about what the first single is, but I know everyone feels good about their options," he told Rapup.com. "She's gonna do the film first. She didn't want to not be able to promote this record because it's gonna be a big record for her."

Stewart, who has worked with everyone from Beyoncé to Rihanna, thinks that this album, like so many of Aguilera's in the past, shows another side of the singer. "It's just great. I wouldn't say that it's alternative, I wouldn't say that it's different," Stewart explained. "Christina's always been an artist that moves the bar and that's what the great ones do. They don't stay in the same place for too long, and this album is just another move for her."

As for collaborations, Aguilera has already talked about working with M.I.A. and Santigold on the album, but Stewart is revealing that she also hit the studio with another unexpected artist. "I know that there's a lot of other cool features, like I know that she has Santigold and Flo Rida on there," he said. "I put Flo Rida on my record because I love what he does. I think sometimes he doesn't get credit for being as dope as he is, but he's really dope."

Aguilera went retro for her Back to Basics album, and she's already touched on her love of the future on her song "Keeps Getting Better." But according to Stewart, this album harks back to her work from seven years ago, when she went a bit raunchy.

"I really feel it's one of her best bodies of work that I've heard since Stripped. I think it's really, really amazing and I think it's well put together," he said. "She's mixing it up again. She's singing R&B again, she's doing pop. She's doing it all, but she's found a way to make it all meet in the middle because she's so many different things."

As for Aguilera's ability to change up her musical style, Stewart credits that to her natural abilities as a singer. "She's a real serious musician, she's a real serious pop artist, and she's a real serious singer," he said. "She's making all her audiences happy at the same time."

SANTA MONICA, California — One is a living legend in music and movies, the other is a living legend about to make her movie debut. Now, Cher and Christina Aguilera are being joined by a red-hot "Twilight" star who will be appearing in his first musical opposite the two famous females: Cam Gigandet.

"I'm shooting a movie called 'Burlesque' with Christina Aguilera in her acting debut," Gigandet revealed when he stopped by the MTV studio recently. "And Cher."

Xtina's fans have been eager to learn details on "Burlesque" since the project was announced last June, especially since it will mark her big-screen debut. Some might be questioning Aguilera's acting skills, but at least they know she'll have a talented leading man at her side.

"It's about a girl from the Midwest who moves out to Los Angeles to pursue her career as a singer," explained Gigandet, whose busy post-"Twilight" schedule has him releasing the sci-fi flick "Pandorum" this weekend. "Obviously, it's Christina Aguilera, so she has an amazing voice. She finds a club run by Cher, a burlesque club. And she takes it to a whole new level and, of course, meets me — the love of her life.

"I am a struggling piano player, and I'm currently working as a bartender at Cher's burlesque club," Gigandet said of his character. "Christina and I meet, fall in love, and drama ensues."

The next question is an obvious one for "Twilight" fans: Will Cam sing and dance? When we asked the star, he hesitated to even call "Burlesque" a musical. "That's interesting — I don't know. There's music in it, and they do sing. I mean, they're at a burlesque club, so they do sing and dance," he explained. "It's a very sexy, sexy movie."

But this much Cam would confirm: He will not be singing any two-part harmonies with his new leading lady. "Oh right, a duet with me and Christina?" he laughed, looking forward to the film that begins shooting in December. "That would be like Kermit the Frog and Christina. I can't sing."

Christina Aguilera has spoken quite a bit about how her upcoming album is taking her sound in a new, electro-disco direction thanks to collaborations with Goldfrapp, Ladytron, M.I.A., Santigold, Sia and Le Tigre.

But in a two-hour interview scheduled to air Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET on E!, "Christina Aguilera: An E! Entertainment Special," the Grammy-winning belter reveals a bit more about husband Jordan Bratman as well as the influence the couple's toddler son, Max, has had on her new studio adventures.

The show takes you inside the studio with Aguilera, where she recalls how after 19-month-old Max was born, she got hooked on the pumping electro sound of bands like U.K. downtempo duo Zero 7. Australian pop singer Sia, who has worked with Zero 7, explains in the show that Aguilera told her, "I'm kind of interested in stepping into your world."

"Whenever Max was born, I really gravitated, for some reason, towards a lot of electro music and that futuristic sound," Aguilera said. "I was listening to a lot of artists like Zero 7, [who] have worked a lot with one of my favorite singer/songwriters, Sia, who is absolutely amazing."

Rather than bend her collaborators to her sound, Aguilera said she really wanted to "step inside their world and see how they put together their sound and their music and experiment with different textures and sounds of my voice."

Aguilera, 28, also gets weepy when she talks about how Bratman has helped settle her once-wild life. "I grew up not really having sort of any real male perspective or role model," Aguilera said, sporting a bleach-blond hairdo and a more tame look than in the past. "Jordan just continuously makes me fall deeper and deeper in love with him every day. ... He just exudes such love and is such a great father to Max that it just make me the happiest woman alive."

In the special, the singer also reveals where Bratman proposed to her, how her pregnancy was a total surprise and the nightly, pre-bedtime-for-Max workout routine that keeps her in shape.

Christina Aguilera is doing anything but getting back to basics on her new music. The singer called in to her station on A.P.E. Radio earlier this week and dished a bit about her forthcoming album, noting that she hit the studio with a wide range of artists to experiment on her sound.

"I know I can't let too much out the bag too soon," she said. "I just can't, 'cause I really want you guys to be surprised and to experience firsthand what I'm talking about or what I'm not talking too much about. Too soon in the game, but wrapping everything up now."

Aguilera noted that she's "in the final stages of the record, and I'm just so thrilled." She stepped out of her comfort zone to make a unique album, working with M.I.A., Santigold and Lady Tron, who she says she "respects and admires."

"I think I'm most proud of this work than I've ever been, just because I worked with so many amazing and incredibly talented people," she said. "[Sia and I] did a lot of work on this record together, and she's just a complete gem. She's truly just such a talented force to be reckoned with. And I so enjoyed her company, and I think we really created some super crazy magic together. I got a chance to sort of write with Santigold, M.I.A., Lady Tron — artists that I really love."

The album's sound, and presumably Aguilera's look to go along with it, will reflect the eclectic vibe that she's striving for on the album. "The overall versatility of this record is truly something special for me," she explained. "I experimented with so many different types of textures and sounds with my voice that I've never showcased and that I never really knew that I could do."

She added that "working with so many different people, I really kind of wanted to step into their worlds, them into my world and just get the best of both worlds."

"I really like to step outside of my own box," she said. "The result was just crazy magic. There truly is something for everyone to enjoy on the record. Lots of good stuff in store!"

Though Christina Aguilera seems omnipresent with her music, jewelry, perfume and numerous endorsement deals, the songstress superstar has never actually been in a movie. She's lent her voice to "Shark Tale," and she was featured in Martin Scorcese's Rolling Stones documentary, "Shine a Light," but she's never gotten to be anyone but herself onscreen.

But now, she's getting her chance to test her talents as an actress. According to Variety, Aguilera will make her big-screen debut in "Burlesque," a contemporary musical.

Aguilera will play "an ambitious, small-town girl with a big voice" who aspires to stardom (as all ambitious, small-town girls do) and finds work at a neo-burlesque club in Los Angeles inspired by Bob Fosse's "Cabaret." Things apparently turn out all right for the determined singer, because she ends up finding love, success and family as a result of her career in cabaret. The film begins shooting late this year, just in time to benefit from the buzz of Aguilera's newest album, which is reportedly due in September.

Steven Antin (who you might remember as Troy in "The Goonies," and who probably knows a little something about burlesque, given that his sister is Pussycat Dolls founder Robin Antin) will direct the film. Antin's script has been revised by Susannah Grant ("Erin Brockovich").

"I couldn't be more excited, as this was a project written with [Aguilera] in mind," Screen Gems President Clint Culpepper told Variety.

There are reports out there that Christina Aguilera is interested in starring in "Burlesque," a film about a modern-day striptease dancer, sources tell E! Online.

Although the site doesn't have further information about how far along Aguilera is in the process of securing the role, there is word that "Dancing With the Stars" favorite Julianne Hough has also met with producers about co-starring as a pregnant showgirl.

Steve Antin, whose sister is Pussycat Dolls creator Robin Antin, wrote the script and is reportedly going to direct the film as well. Screen Gems, the studio behind the project, has confirmed that the movie in development, but added that it's "too preliminary to comment on." The studio is aiming for a January 2010 production start date.

A rep for Aguilera had no comment about the casting news when reached by MTV News.

Playing a burlesque dancer on film wouldn't be too difficult for Aguilera, who got saucy covering Labelle's "Lady Marmalade" for the "Moulin Rogue" soundtrack. She followed that up with her stint as "Dirrty" Christina on her 2002 album, Stripped, posing topless for the cover. Then, in 2006, she embraced her inner pin-up for Back to Basics. This would be the first major film role for the singer.

While she's kept quiet on the possibility of making her mark on the big screen, Aguilera has talked a bit about the follow-up to her recent best-of release, Keeps Gettin' Better: A Decade of Hits. She told MTV News that said she wants the new album to have a more "futuristic" vibe: "It's a challenge and an exciting new project for me to reinvent what I am doing yet again, and come up with something new and fresh."

After another year that saw a serious decline in record sales, the music industry is, once again, hoping that 2009 will be the one that turns around a nearly decade-long sales spiral. And, judging from the boatload of marquee talent expected to drop new discs this year, it's possible that the bleeding could at the very least be slowed down. Maybe.

Christina Aguilera gave birth to her first son, Max, in January, and she just popped out a new CD two weeks ago, so she can be forgiven for missing the news of the latest additions to the ranks of pop star parents, Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson.

"Oh, did they give birth? Oh, how exciting! Congratulations," she told MTV News on Sunday, after her performance at the American Music Awards. "I give my best. They're about to be on the ride of their life. It's just the most amazing thing you could ever experience."

At the awards show, Aguilera did a remix of some of her classics in honor of her new greatest-hits album, Keeps Gettin' Better — A Decade of Hits, which was released earlier this month exclusively at Target. "[The performance was a] seven-minute medley based on seven of my greatest hits, which was jam-packed and full of vigor and life and a lot of momentum and a lot of stamina ... but it was really, really fun going through 10 years in seven minutes."

Aguilera said she couldn't believe the album debuted at #9, considering that everyone has already heard most of the songs on it. "Well this is the last 10 years in the making," she said. "[I'm] very excited about the fact that it' even in the top ten being that these are songs that have already been hits and recreations of those hits."

She added, "So I'm in the studio currently working on my new album of all-new material, but this one in part is a fun thank you from me to the fans for helping me build such an amazing career."

The last time we saw Christina Aguilera, she was masquerading as a singing, dancing Vargas girl, a 1940s pinup re-imagined as a 2000s pop princess. Since her last album, well ... let's just say things are a little bit different.

Because when Aguilera unveiled her brand new look at the 2008 Video Music Awards, it was as if that retro queen had been packed into a capsule and rocketed headlong into the future. Gone were the soft curls and pleated skirts, replaced instead with impossibly angular bangs, thigh-high boots and enough pleather to make Catwoman blush.

It was, to coin a term, "future fetish." And when MTV News sat down with Aguilera last week in Los Angeles to talk about her greatest-hits album, Keeps Getting Better, and her "futuristic" new record, we decided to run our new phrase by her ... and, surprise, surprise, she sort of liked it.

"I wanted to give [fans] a little sneak preview of what's to come [with the VMA performance]. The vein of the new material is a futuristic take on what is inspiring me at the moment ... and it's got a very pop-art feel, visually," she explained. "[There's a] throwback to Andy Warhol and all the colors and vividness and bright boldness that was in that artwork. I'm a big collector of pop art and graffiti art at this point, too — D*Face and Banksy, also Roy Lichtenstein ... and it's been very fun venturing off into that zone."

Of course, there are plenty of folks out there who couldn't help but notice that Xtina's new look was also slightly influenced by a more, uh, "contemporary" source, electro-pop sensation Lady Gaga, right down to the penchant for patent leather and the raccoon eye makeup (you can judge for yourself over in our Newsroom blog).

But Aguilera just laughs those comparisons off. And though she name-drops artists like Sia and Goldfrapp as big inspirations for her current look and sound, she's quick to point out that she's not terribly focused on the current state of music. Rather, she's styled herself in a manner that pays homage to artists from the past, all while looking towards the future too.

"I was very inspired by the look and feel of that [pop-art] genre, your Jane Birkins, your Blondies, females who have come before who have done this so many times and so well — almost as an homage to them," she explained. "Also, speaking of Warhol, Nico from the Velvet Underground ... so it all kind of ties in to a pop-art feel and twist, with a mod look. But a futuristic taste of what's to come."
