Biography

One of the silent era's most popular Irish characters, diminutive, Philadelphia-born Charles P. McHugh had been on the stage since the age of 12. A veteran member of the Forpaugh Stock Company, McHugh became a star opposite the legendary Eddie Foy in Off the Earth and later headlined the stage comedy Sinbad. Onscreen from 1917, McHugh added his special brand of Blarney to a host of characters with names like O'Toole, McTavish, and Flannigan. His early death was attributed to a heart attack. ~ Hans J.
