With an appearance that lent itself to portrayals of jocks, studs, and slickly coiffed and dressed young men, actor Robert "Rib" Hillis initially achieved fame and success as a fashion model. A native of Suffern, NY, who grew up in the Boston metropolitan area, Hillis attended the University of Colorado at Boulder and was promptly discovered by a modeling scout and recruited during his junior year; the resultant contract brought him to Paris, where he graced ads for such brands as Catalyst Cologne, Versace, and Armani. Hillis made the crossover to acting by virtue of an appearance on Baywatch Nights, then landed a small supporting role in Shane Edelman's comedy According to Spencer (2001) and signed for the part of Dr. Jake Marshak on the ABC midday soaper Port Charles. Hillis also essayed the lead in Alec Tuckman's 2002 feature Empathy and made guest appearances on series programs including CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, CSI: Miami, and Bull. A longtime handyman, Hillis found a way to combine his on-camera experience with his home-improvement skills, joining the design team of the hit reality series Extreme Makeover: Home Edition in fall 2007. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi
