After a few seasons of leading-man assignments on stage, John Holland entered films as a utility player in the later 1930s. In 1949, Holland was a semi-regular on the pioneering TV anthology The Armchair Detective. He went on to appear on Broadway in Mary Martin's Peter Pan, then toured extensively in The Caine Mutiny Court Martial.
