LOS ANGELES — You'd think God could let her know.
Amber Tamblyn, who talks to the Almighty as the title character in "Joan of Arcadia," is unsure of the fate of the show, so she's got three movies on hold as backup.
"We won't know until May if our show gets picked up, and that will basically decide whether I can do [the movies] or not," Tamblyn said. "After I finish promotion for ['The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants'], I'll only have a couple of weeks before I go back for the third season, so we'll see."
Tamblyn wouldn't comment on any of her potential next movies, but she had a lot to say about "The Sisterhood," which opens June 3.
"It was honestly the best time I ever had on a movie set, and I am 110 percent so proud of this movie," said the actress, whose credits include "The Ring" and "General Hospital." "This will hopefully reinstall a state of nice feminism in young girls."
Based on Ann Brashares' book of the same name, "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" is about the first summer apart for four best friends and the stories they share as they pass a pair of pants between themselves.
"My character, her name is Tibby, and she's got blue hair, her nose is pierced and her ears are all pierced," Tamblyn said. "She's this really sarcastic, loudmouth girl that is always trying to be the obnoxious one in the group. Everybody else goes away for the summer and she stays home and she wants to make something called a 'suckumentary,' which is basically a documentary about people who suck in her town. She ends up meeting this young girl and they sort of have this friendship that they build and something pretty tragic happens. It's about being in relationships and enjoying life while you have it."
Tamblyn hadn't read the book before she was cast. "I really didn't even know much about it, but once I got the part, I read it and I was blown away."
What attracted her to the movie was the chance to work with America Ferrera, the young star of "Real Women Have Curves." "That [the book was amazing] was the icing on the cake," she said.
Alexis Bledel ("Gilmore Girls," "Sin City") and Bradley Whitford ("The West Wing") also co-star.
