Once he's done invading Earth with "War of the Worlds," Steven Spielberg plans to move right into another tale of a terrifying attack. The untitled Tony Kushner ("Angels in America") script details the events surrounding the 1972 Olympics in Munich, Germany, where terrorists kidnapped and killed a group of Israeli athletes. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal Pictures is targeting an ambitious December 23 release date for the film, which Spielberg will begin filming this summer. ... In other Spielberg news, "The Transformers" movie is finally gaining speed. Putting on his producer hat this time around, Spielberg said he's received the latest script rewrite and is thrilled with it. "It's happening. We'll announce the director in three or four weeks." ...

In what she's dubbed a dream role, "Constantine" star Rachel Weisz will next tackle Marleen Gorris' biographical film "Barry." Weisz will spend the majority of the movie dressed as a man. "Obviously, women in the 19th century weren't allowed to go to a university, let alone become a doctor," she said of the true story of James Miranda Barry, who disguised herself to avoid discrimination as an army surgeon in South Africa. ...The Nicole Kidman/Russell Crowe film "Eucalyptus" has been halted due to a lacking script. With the film set dismantled and the crew members dismissed, the future is doubtful for the romantic drama, which had been filming in Australia. "We have agreed that the best thing to do is postpone shooting until the project's foundation is solid," the film's stars offered in a statement. "We are confident that when the time is right this dedicated Australian production team will once again find a way to be on board." ...

The first rule is you don't talk about Benjamin Button. That decree seems to have been finally lifted, though, as producer Kathleen Kennedy is breaking a long silence by commenting on the rumors that "Fight Club" mastermind David Fincher had left "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button." "No, Fincher [is directing]," Kennedy said of the twisted movie about a man who ages backward. "I was just on the phone with everybody on that. It looks like it may go forward this summer." ... Meanwhile, Fincher's frequent collaborator (most recently on a Heineken Super Bowl ad) Brad Pitt is lining up a project of his own. The former Mr. Aniston is attached to "Charles Schmidt," a reality-blurring flick that is already drawing comparisons to "Being John Malkovich." Sony/Columbia will produce the film, about an actor trying to make it in Los Angeles in the 1980s who resembles a talented young actor by the name of ... Brad Pitt. When Pitt makes it and Schmidt does not, the washed-up actor must confront his own depressing reality. ...

Hoo-hah! The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that Al Pacino will be an Oscar presenter this year. Drew Barrymore, Orlando Bloom, Scarlett Johansson and Charlize Theron will also be tearing open envelopes. This year's ceremony will be televised live by ABC on February 27. ... A new generation of youngsters will have the opportunity to bawl their eyes out when Disney releases its 1942 classic "Bambi" on DVD for the first time. The two-disc special edition, which hits stores March 1, contains an all-new digital restoration of the film and a remixed soundtrack. "Bambi" will also contain deleted scenes, a making-of featurette, games and more. ...

Jamie Kennedy may be stepping into the oversized zoot suit of Jim Carrey with this week's "Son of the Mask," but it's another actor whose talents he dreams of possessing. "I'm going to say something that will be controversial to some people, but Robert Downey Jr. to me is one of the greatest actors in Hollywood," the comedian insisted. "Take away the fact that he's familiar with black tar heroin and other drugs, he is a brilliant actor and if he didn't do drugs he could do any type of role. His acting is something to aspire to." ... It looks like George Clooney has a new comrade in his long-running battle with obtrusive photographers. At the recent Screen Actors Guild Awards, "Elektra" butt-kicker Jennifer Garner vented about the relentless shutterbugs that follow her everywhere. "I think we need to work on some laws to work on the growing problem with paparazzi," the actress fumed. "I think it's dangerous." ...

Sci-fi geeks of the world, rejoice! Your first chance to see Zaphod Beeblebrox and Marvin the Paranoid Android in action has gone live on Amazon.com's front page. It's the first full trailer for "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy." The film, which stars Mos Def and Zooey Deschanel, lands in theaters April 29. ... Speaking of long-gestating literary adaptations, the big-screen version of "Charlotte's Web" is having the finishing touches put on it, and, according to Cedric the Entertainer, is looking real good. "It's going be very nice, a lot of fun. We're really excited about it. There's a lot of great voices in there," said the comedian, who is part of an unlikely cast that includes Julia Roberts, Steve Buscemi, and a name that should have mothers begging their kids to go see it. "I play a goose, and I'm married to Oprah in this one, so I'm married to the goose that laid the golden egg." ...
