Johnny Weir is one of the most flamboyant and exciting figures in the world of men's competitive figure skating. Weir was a medalist at the 2006 Winter Olympics and has won the U.S. men's skating championship three times at the age of 23, and his dramatic, openly emotional style and stylish costumes have helped to win his a passionate fan following. Weir is also known for his willingness to speak his mind without hesitation, as well as his stubborn refusal to discuss certain aspects of his private life (as he once told a reporter, "What I do in my bedroom is personal -- I don't think anyone needs to know if I'm sleeping with Sienna Miller or Orlando Bloom"). Filmmakers David Barba and James Pellerito spent a year following Weir during the competitive skating season, and the documentary Pop Star On Ice offers an in-depth look at Weir on and off the ice, as he trains for upcoming competitions, deals with both triumph and disappointment, and holds on to his dream of once again representing the United States in the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Pop Star On Ice was the first feature film from David Barba and James Pellerito, and played the documentary film festival circuit before making its television debut on the Sundance Channel. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
