Movie Details

A meeting between two people suggests more is happening than is visible on the surface in this short subject from filmmakers Jeanne Faust and Jörn Zehe. It's a sunny afternoon somewhere in Germany, and a farm hand is working in a field of leeks. A voice off-screen calls to him, but it soon becomes clear that that they don't share the same language -- the farm hand speaks in Polish, the man off-screen speaks German, and their attempts to communicate in English end in failure. However, the tone of their voices suggests these men somehow know one another, and there's some bitterness between them that informs their failed conversation. Sonst Wer Wie Du was screened in competition at the 2007 Rotterdam International Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
