The 2017 MTV Movie & TV Awards was quite the game changer! Not only was this MTV's first ever venture into honoring both movies & TV, the night celebrated equal opportunities in all areas of entertainment, and we had one hell of a good time doing it! Let's recap, shall we?
Adam Devine, our beast of a host, made quite the fiery entrance by channeling "Beauty and the Beast" to the tune of "Movies and TV," with guest appearances by Rebel Wilson as Mrs. Pots and Blake Anderson as Lumière. The theme continued with Emma Watson graciously accepting our first ever gender-neutral movie category, Best Actor in a Movie. The feels went on as Millie Bobby Brown shone during her acceptance speech for Best Actor in a Show, followed by Noah Cyrus bringing the party with her performance of "Stay Together." Taraji P. Henson gave us a serious dose of girl power with her acceptance speech for Best Fight Against the System, just before we moved into the fast lane with a performance by Camila Cabello, Pitbull, and J. Balvin singing "Hey Ma." Once their Fast & Furious tribute was done, the cast including Vin Diesel took to the stage to accept this year's Generation Award.
But that's not all. "Moonlight's" Ashton Sanders and Jharrel Jerome were the first ever same-sex couple to be awarded Best Kiss, followed by Milo Ventimiglia and Lonnie Chavis making us ugly cry with their win for Best Tearjerker. Big Sean brought down the house with a performance of his newest song, "Jump Out the Window," and Adam took us into the Upside-down when Allison Williams sent him to "The Sunken Place." "Beauty and the Beast" swept the coveted popcorn for Movie of the Year, but it was the cast of "13 Reasons Why" giving "Stranger Things" the award for Show of the Year that still has us talking!
The show may have gone through a makeover, but the theme of the night was definitely that change is a good thing.
