Epic Games is best known for making killer shooters like Unreal Tournament and Gears of War. The developer licenses out its technology to other game makers to allow creators to focus on unique gameplay. Epic's Unreal Engine 3 (like a car, an engine is what's underneath the hood of the game, driving the action) was evident at nearly every booth at E3 this year.
With no Halo 3 in sight until 2007, it's all about the Locusts this year. Set on the planet Sera, this shooter blends adrenaline-fueled action with survival horror. Epic's Cliffy B has been fine-tuning the controls of this visually breathtaking game. The multiplayer gameplay that the developer showcased at E3 left everyone salivating for more.
Director John Woo enlisted actor Chow Yun-Fat to reprise his role of Inspector Tequila from the Hong Kong action flick Hard Boiled for this videogame sequel. The UT game will feature over 40 maps--an ice planet was shown in the E3 demo. Online gameplay brings massive battles to life through the new Warfare mode. Players will face off on diverse battlefields filled with weapons and vehicles (including a new hoverboard). A new combatant, the Necris, introduces giant Darkwalker tripods to the action.
This isn't your father's Turok. The erstwhile Dinosaur Hunter of comic fame has been given a makeover in this first-person shooter. Set on a future planet, Turok and his special forces team must take down a criminal and his army while blowing away dinosaurs like T-Rexes and Velociraptors. The next-gen version kicks ass.
This next-gen first-person shooter literally puts players on the front lines of the largest airborne invasion in history--Operation Market Garden. WWII gameplay blends gunfights with squad-based tactics, which requires one to think before acting. The only historically accurate WWII game out there, gamers will learn about the history of this battle while engaging the enemy head-on.
Set in a post-apocalypse world, this massively multiplayer online game brings first-person shooting action to the forefront. Fans of Halo will get the chance to experience futuristic combat--complete with vehicles--against thousands of player-controlled troops within a persistent universe.
