The stars must be aligned for Miss Universe Riyo Mori, an avid believer in astrology. Raised in the small Japanese town of Shizuoka, Riyo left at age 16 to study abroad in Canada. Such a bold move at an early age is typical for this self-described "modern-day female samurai."
As a young girl, Riyo discovered her life's passion in her mother's basement dance studio. Her love of dancing and ambitious nature has taken her to Canada's Quinte Ballet School and the Radio City Rockette's Summer Intensive training program. Accepted into New York's Broadway Dance School, Riyo put her dancing dreams on hold for a chance to compete in the Miss Universe pageant, and it certainly paid off!
With the title of Miss Universe under her belt, Riyo is just getting started. She aspires to become the first Japanese Radio City Rockette and eventually wants to become a successful businesswoman by opening an international dance school in Tokyo. Riyo intends to spread her message of empowerment and independence to women all over the world, using her mother as inspiration.
Of course, this 20-year-old beauty queen isn't all business -- she gets excited about meeting celebrities just like the rest of us. So who is Riyo Mori dying to meet now that she's living in New York City? Yankees slugger Hideki Matsui! See if her dream comes true on Pageant Place.
