An aspiring journalist, Rachel Smith has been making headlines of her own, even before becoming Miss USA. At Belmont University, from which she graduated magna cum laude, Rachel managed both her campus newspaper and radio station while interning at her local TV affiliate. She also interned with Harpo Productions, Inc., in 2006, spending eight months in Chicago. Such discipline isn't surprising from the only daughter of military parents.
Born in Panama, Rachel's family eventually settled in Clarksville, Tenn., which she now calls home. But Rachel's discipline isn't just confined to journalism -- she wakes up at 7 a.m. every morning to workout. Though she's always up for a game of basketball, Rachel loves all types of sports, including the extreme ones. In fact, she's looking forward to skydiving at some point this year!
The life of a beauty queen is filled with glamorous photo shoots and red carpet events, but Rachel has also sought to use her year as Miss USA to further her advocacy and volunteer work. In January 2007, Rachel traveled to South Africa to volunteer at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls. Such international humanitarian efforts have humbled Rachel, and strengthened her resolve to aid underprivileged children.
Rachel Smith's ultimate dream is to create her own philanthropic organization, but in the immediate future she plans for a career as a journalist on the national stage. With such beauty, brains, discipline and drive, Rachel is bound for success! And now you can see all her dreams come true on Pageant Place.
