Unless you're the child of a celebrity or a very, very, very special guest, you're probably not going to get backstage at this year's MTV Video Music Awards. That's OK, 'cause you can still party like you're there with Eminem, P. Diddy and Pink. You just have to know what you need.

Every artist has a list of requirements called a "rider," which they provide to the venues in which they appear. This list is filled with all of the consumables and creature comforts they think they need in their dressing room.
In some cases, the items are, in fact, essential. Musicians who have driven for hours to arrive in time for a gig need to eat before they perform. And singers sometimes need honey, lemon or cough drops to soothe their vocal chords. But the fun of riders is that artists can and do get carried away, listing everything they can think of to create a home away from home. Let's go backstage ...
