We could all probably use a good laugh right about now.
So, into these turbulent times ride Tenacious D, a pair of rotund rock gods who funnel the fist-pumping majesty of Judas Priest into bodies better built for league night at Bowl-A-Lot Lanes. Twisted troubadours Jack Black and Kyle Gass have earned a passionate cult following since teaming up in L.A.'s underground comedy scene and brewing their acoustic "sauce" for a short-lived HBO series. To the devoted they are simply "the D," and they are hailed as the greatest band on earth.
Among those singing the praises of the D are Foo Fighters leader Dave Grohl and Phish's Page McConnell, who both turn up on the band's debut album. Tenacious D is a collection of songs about sex, rockin', more sex and more rockin', all packed with more obscenities than a night on the town with DMX.
Black and Gass carried that theme through a recent interview with Robert Mancini, during which they also firmly asserted their newfound status as major-label big shots. They also met Shaquille O'Neal, who wound up spanking a pantless Jack Black. You can check out RealVideo of that event and much more in our feature.
