You've got a tattoo of a fairy on your lower back — cute, but could that cause any problems when you go into labor and want epidural anesthesia? Not if you plan ahead, Britney. Talk to your doctor beforehand to make sure the anesthesiologist will have the specific type of stylet needle that you require — it prevents a certain amount of skin cells (or in your case, tattoo ink) from going into the spinal cord. Not every hospital keeps them in stock, but if you ask for it, they're cheap and easy to get. "You want to make sure before you're in labor, before you're in pain, that they know they just need to have the right needle," said Dr. Robert Greene, author of the upcoming "Perfect Balance for Pregnancy." "You don't want the excuse to be, 'I can't get the needle fast enough.' That's what you're trying to prevent." That, and a lot of pain. If you do get an epidural, don't expect it to kick in right away: It takes about five minutes to get the catheter needle in, and then another 10 to 15 minutes after it's injected to take effect. So get it early, if you can. According to a recent Northwestern University study of 750 women, it won't increase your risk of a C-section, and it can help shorten labor too.

Be sure to check back next week and every week as we add to our list of baby tips for Britney and expectant mothers everywhere. But remember, the best advice for you is the advice you get from your doctor.
