You may not know this, Britney, but that nipple piercing of yours could cause some problems down the line, and not just discomfort as your breasts swell. Sometimes, when you have a nipple pierced, it stimulates your body to create prolactin (the milk-inducing hormone) and drives down testosterone levels. Dr. Lester Mayers, sports medicine director at New York's Pace University, theorizes this happens because the mechanical stimulation of a piercing activates the reflex normally activated by a nursing baby. If this happens to you, it can interfere with your milk production as well as the bonding process you're supposed to have with the baby once it's born. It's simple enough to fix, though, according to Dr. Robert Greene, author of the upcoming "Perfect Balance for Pregnancy." Just take out the piercing as early as possible in the third trimester to let your levels go back to normal, and keep it out until you're finished nursing. "You want to leave it out until you're completely done," Greene said, "and not just take it on and off during feedings."
