It may have been unwise for Britney Spears to cast her new husband, Kevin Federline, as the groom in her video for "My Prerogative." There's a long history of artists casting significant others in their videos, and as we'll see, it's often boded ill for the relationship. So Britney, be careful!

****

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck

Video: J. Lo's "Jenny From the Block"
Concept: Don't hate her because she's dating a movie star.
Fallout: Bennifer was a celebrity monster neither could control, and the pair called off their engagement in January 2004. Now she's with the considerably less tabloid-friendly Marc Anthony.

Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley

Video: Jacko's "You Are Not Alone"
Concept: Michael and Lisa Marie lounge around semi-naked in supposedly loving intimacy.
Fallout: Lisa Marie left Michael with his (ahem) fantasies. Jackson and the King's daughter grossed out the world with their famous kiss at the 1994 VMAs and did further damage with this video, which seems to run longer than their marriage did. Jacko went on to marry and divorce his dermatology nurse; Presley moved on — equally briefly — to be the prized item in the trophy case of Elvis-memorabilia collector Nicolas Cage.

David Coverdale and Tawny Kitaen

Video: Whitesnake's "Here I Go Again"
Concept: Tawny becomes the video vixen when she stars in a trilogy of the band's videos, but is most memorable in this clip, which finds her writhing on the hood of David's car and sticking her tongue in his ear.
Fallout: Tawny and David divorced in 1991. Tawny was later arrested for allegedly assaulting her second husband, major-league baseball player Chuck Finley.

Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey

 Video: Jess' "The Sweetest Sin"
Concept: Newlywed Jessica embraces Nick and this thing called sex — whoa!
Fallout: None so far, as long as Nick doesn't mind taking the boy-toy role in the couple's current vogue. Current stint on "Charmed" could get him out of the house — or into the doghouse for kissing co-star Alyssa Milano.

Billy Idol and Perri Lister

 Video: Idol's "White Wedding"
Concept: Billy suggests getting married is more of a curse than a blessing. The wedding ring, made of thorns, makes her finger bleed.
Fallout: Billy and Perri had a son during their 10-year relationship, but a paternity test later revealed that a second child, born around the same time with another woman, was Idol's as well. Oops!

Ashlee Simpson and Ryan Cabrera

Video: Ryan's "On the Way Down"
Concept: Ashlee tends the bar where Ryan plays. (Aren't they both underage?)
Fallout: They say they've since broken up, but then they arrived together at the VMAs. Who knows?

George Michael and Kathy Jeung

Video: George's "I Want Your Sex"
Concept: George preaches hot monogamous sex, with the aid of his makeup artist girlfriend and some handy lipstick.
Fallout: George neglected to mention that he really wanted hot gay sex. Unwittingly came out when caught by policeman in public-bathroom scandal. Spoofed incident in a later video, "Outside."

Usher and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas

Video: Usher's "U Got It Bad"
Concept: Usher misses his girl Chilli now that she's a big star and has no time for him — except, of course, to appear in this clip.
Fallout: He won, sold mega copies of his Confessions album and eclipsed the girl he'd missed.

Axl Rose and Erin Everly/ Axl Rose and Stephanie Seymour

Videos: Guns N' Roses' "Sweet Child O' Mine"/ "November Rain"
Concept: Axl sings a love song to Erin/ Axl marries and buries Stephanie
Fallout: After one month, Axl and Erin's marriage ended abruptly amid charges of domestic abuse and was later annulled. Axl and Stephanie got engaged, but after living together for two years, they broke up — again, amid charges of physical abuse.

Melissa Etheridge and Julie Cypher

 Video: Mel's "Nowhere to Go"
Concept: Multitasking Julie directs and guest-stars in the road-trip clip — and was pregnant during the filming.
Fallout: Julie, who divorced Lou Diamond Phillips in 1990 to live with Mel and enlisted David Crosby to be the father of their two children, later pulled an Anne Heche and decided ... she's not a lesbian after all. Etheridge showed off her new girlfriend in her latest video, "I Want to Be in Love."

Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley

 Video: Billy's "Uptown Girl"
Concept: Model Christie comes into mechanic Billy's repair shop; he whisks her away on his bike.
Fallout: After nine years, a daughter, and giving hope to everyday Joes everywhere, the Piano Man split from his supermodel spouse in 1994. Now spends his time writing children's books and getting into automobile accidents.

Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown

Video: The pair team up on "We've Got Something in Common"
Concept: Whitney and Bobby are in love. And rich. And famous. Aren't you jealous?
Fallout: Could this be the couple that Britney considers role models? Guess that's her prerogative.

How long will Britney and Kevin's marriage last?

Forever and ever
At least as long as Whitney and Bobby's
About as long as the video airs on "TRL"
Longer than her last marriage, anyway
