The 411: You know Vlad. This time he's bringing his big friend with him, number 34, er, 32.

Joints To Check For:
  • "You Not the Fightin Type" by Shaquille O'Neal and Money Mark. One more round. Not only does Shaq let off another dis at Skillz, but he finally hollas at his ex-Laker teammate and even calls the Pistons' Ben Wallace "spider web head." "You don't want war, well I'mma bring it/ You done messed up, man," Shaq talks over the beat for Eminem's "Say What You Say." Then he raps about the VA lyricist and the Lakers' number eight. "Even with wings you're never fly as me/ You remind me of Kobe Bryant, tryin' to be as high as me/ But you can't, even if you getting me traded/ Wherever I'm at, I'm Puffy and you're Mase, and you're still hated."
  • Various Vlad blends. The DJ really gets into his craft, mixing Usher's vocals from "Burn" with Pitbull's "Culo" instrumental and 213's raps from "Groupie Love" with R. Kelly's "Happy People" beat.
  • "Brooklyn Sh--" by German Luger and Geda K. Two of BK's upcoming gutter griots go at it for a couple of minutes, showing why they've earned their blue-chip stripes. Luger even raps in both Spanish and English.

Celebrity Favs

Chris Rock is starring with Adam Sandler and Nelly in an upcoming remake of "The Longest Yard," and he has an album called Never Scared dropping August 31. But right now the Rock is smelling what Green Lantern and DJ Vlad are cooking: "What am I listening too? I'm listening to Jay, Outkast ... I keep hearing Nas singles, they sound really hot. I listen to mixtapes. Kay Slay, Green Lantern, but that Tupac Rap Phenomenon is insane. That's really the best album out."

The Streets Is Talking: News & Notes From The Underground

A few people have been bugging after listening to DJ Exclusive's new mixtape, The Boiler Room. The CD is hosted by Detroit MC Paradime, who is also Kid Rock's DJ, and located within the compilation is a Paradime record called "Foul Mouf" that features Kid. What's so bugged is that Rock disses Nas on the song. But on Dime's new LP, 11 Steps Down, a different version of the song appears with no barbs toward God's Son. Paradime has an explanation: "When me and Rock were making that song 'Foul Mouf,' we had 80-something beers in us. We recorded it, then we started talking about the Nas thing." See, Nas called out Rock out on the song "Got Ur Self A ...," saying, "This is real hardcore/ Kid Rock and Limp Bizkit's soft." "[Rock] didn't even hear it, but somebody brought it up to him and he was like, 'What? Why? Me and Nas would probably be cool if I knew him,' " Paradime said. Rock then redid his part for "Foul Mouf": "Still these rappers jocks these nuts/ Hey, Nas, I heard what you had to say/ Mutha----er, I took your album and threw it awaaay." "I love Nas ... so I was like, 'That is not going on the record. I don't want controversy,' " Dime recalled. "But of course some dumb mutha----er leaked it somehow. I'd love to get my hands on the kid that leaked it." ...

Silkk the Shocker almost gave Mase a run for his money in the hiatus department. Master P's baby bro has been gone for three years. But hey, guess when you've been rapping professionally since you were 14, you need some time off. "You don't want to be making all that money and not enjoy it," Silkk said of what prompted his layoff. "I'm always trying to please somebody, doing all these shows, interviews, every day I'm at a hotel. I wasn't really enjoying it. I'll probably stay at my house a month out of the year. What's the sense of buying a big house if you can't enjoy it? I was like, 'I could come out with a album anytime.' I wanted to take time out and chill with my mom and my fam." Silkk said he didn't really miss the rap game, but he kept running into young fans asking for music. After getting his feet wet in the studio again and laying some tracks down, he regained his jones. "When you hear my new album, you'll be like, 'The boy is back.' Right now I think I have a lot more to offer the game 'cause I laid back for a minute." Silkk's Based on a True Story comes out September 7. ...
