Run-DMC - Raising Hell
They already put Queens on the map, and this album put hip-hop on the globe. Kids from Asia and Africa as well as America were throwing on their Adidas and Lee jeans to be like Run, DMC and Jam Master Jay. Run-DMC also opened the doors for the rock and roll/hip-hop hybrids that maintain status on the charts today.
The Argument
How did Run-DMC get on the list? ...
Buttahman: I'll throw it out there — yo, why is Raising Hell on there?
All: Why??
Buttahman: I'm just asking. I didn't vote for it, so, for people who did, I'd like to know why.
Rahman Dukes: I voted for it because that album was a pioneering album.
Shaheem Reid: "My Adidas" ...
Sway Calloway: "Peter Piper" is on that one ...
Dukes: For "Peter Piper" alone ...
Sway: "Walk This Way" — if for no other reasons, it was for what that record was right there.
Buttahman: I feel ya, I feel ya. But the problem is, there are things that are on the top 10 list that sound good, like Illmatic, like Reasonable Doubt. There are things that you put on your list because you know other people are gonna see it. That's what I feel Run-DMC is.
All: Noooooooo ...
