N.W.A - N---az4life
Killing hookers, firing shots at "Benedict Arnold" and yelling "F--- the feds." Did you really think that hip-hop's most beloved bad guys would return any less abrasive with their second full-length? Losing their best lyricist could have easily caused the brash collective to fold. What did they do? Eazy talked even more reckless, Ren spit harder and Dre began to perfect his production craft.
The Argument
Straight Outta Compton or N---az4Life? ...
Sway Calloway: N---az4Life, that was without Ice Cube. N.W.A was not N.W.A without Cube, I do not care what anyone says, it changed the whole makeup of that group. That was a great album, but ...
Buttahman: Dude ... I'm sorry, that album was ... I can't even ...
Sway: Let me ask you this, what made more impact — Straight Outta Compton or N---az4Life?
Buttahman: I think N---az4Life.
Sway: Ahhhhhh! (falls out of his chair)
Buttahman: That was when the East Coast really embraced N.W.A.
Sway: Are you kidding me? The fact that N.W.A after Straight Outta Compton could be a success without necessarily having the East Coast embracing, to me, is a bigger statement than N---az4Life. N.W.A came, and mother------s thought they were corny with the jheri curls, the whole sh--, and N.W.A just said, "F--- it, I'm moving by you ... and I'mma keep going." These dudes did all that sh-- on their own. They trailblazed some sh-- for the West Coast.
Buttahman: Again, it's subjective, but for me, N---az4Life is an album where you had this hardcore group that made this record, basically from back to front it was like, "We don't give a f---, we're gonna have fun, we're gonna f--- you mother------s up." You know what I mean? Just crazy, off-the-wall sh--. You could never make an album like that today.
