As if all of this weren't enough, Destiny's Child also have a book coming out April 16. It's the self-told story of the group, with help from writer James Patrick Herman, senior editor at InStyle magazine. Herman followed the ladies around, documenting their every thought, word and move, and then he conducted interviews with each of them. Because of all the public battles this group has fought, from rotating members to fending off their lawsuits to combating allegations that Beyoncé is trying to pull a Diana Ross and put herself front and center, many fans might feel as though they know a lot about the group's private lives already. But soon, we may all know a whole lot more.
"Our new book is entitled 'Soul Survivors,' " Kelly said. "It is an autobiography of Destiny's Child, an intimate look [at us]. The way the book is formed from beginning to end is really interesting. [It shows] how we started, our personal home lives, to professional [lives], to switching members in the group and all of the wonderful things of Destiny's Child. Everybody is going to have a chance to feel us, body, mind and soul. We just want everybody to read it so they could understand us and everything." She joked, "And if you don't it's OK. You can still just wonder. It's cool."
Beyoncé said "Soul Survivors" will not only tell of the girls' childhood antics like sliding down stairs on mattresses, keeping a houseful of stray cats, and Michelle's putting Polident in her uncle's bathwater so he couldn't get out of the tub, but it will also clear up some misconceptions. "People think certain things about us and that stuff is getting squashed," Beyoncé said emphatically. "You learn about our personalities and the history of Destiny's Child. It talks about when Kelly and I had to make the decision to go on after the member change. It talks about Michelle's, Kelly's and my decision to become a trio, which was the hardest decision but ended up being the best decision we ever made."
On top of giving fans an inside look at the off-duty lives of Destiny's Child, Kelly views the effort as cathartic. "All kinds of emotions run through this book," she explained. "I was glad we had a chance to do this because it was kind of therapy for me. I went back to my childhood and talked about stuff that I've never talked about before. My personal life, like the fact that I grew up without my father I don't know where he is. And the fact that I was blessed to have our manager Matthew Knowles as my father figure and have three parents instead of just one: my mom, Tina Knowles and Matthew. We got everything in there."
With This Is the Remix behind them and doing well, the members of Destiny's Child stand in support of each other, eagerly anticipating the arrival of their personal projects as a means to bring the group to the next level when they decide to return to Destiny's Child as their united focus.
"The wonderful thing about our group is the support we have for each other. We understand that 'Austin Powers' is gonna help all of us. Michelle's gospel record is gonna help all of us. Kelly doing 'The Hughleys' is gonna help all of us. We all support everybody's individual projects. It's beautiful when you can do things and come back to Destiny's Child," Beyoncé said. "When we come back together, it's going to be stronger than it was because doing things by yourself forces you to grow. I know when we come back to the music, it's going to be so incredible."
