Chris Connelly: How does it feel to be back on the road? You started last night in Los Angeles. What was that like? A lot of anticipation? Excitement? Rehearsal?

T-Boz: The crowd. Oh yeah, I was nervous a little bit, but they... they were the best crowd from the tour so far. Like, we just started back, but they were better than--

Chilli: But Montreal...

T: Montreal was good, but I don't know. The energy last night was amazing. Montreal and L.A. kinda had it good, but LA was great. Usually they don't give it up like that.

C: That's true. Because in L.A., usually, a lot of celebrities come out, and they're just sitting there.

T: Or all the groupies thinking they're stars.

MTV: Do you get nervous looking out there, if you see a famous person sitting in the first ten rows?

T: Not anymore.

MTV: You used to, though? Once upon a time?

T: Yes, yes. But now I'm like, "Hey, girl."

C: But Michael Jackson, I'm sorry.

T: Well, yeah, if Mike comes.

C: If Michael Jackson was sitting out there...

T: Or The Artist, I kinda get... you know.

C: I'd be up there singin' and go, "Uhhh..."

T: But now, like, it's funny, because it's kinda cool. Like, I know Janet [Jackson] has been trying to come see us for the last two days but, she's doing [the sequel to] "The Nutty Professor" -- Go girl! -- and stuff, but she can't make it because of the shooting and whatnot. But it's amazing to see someone like that really want to come [to see TLC]. We grew up watching her and everybody, and for them to want to come see us, it's like, "For real?" It makes you really feel good. So now it kinda took away the fright and the fear, and it kinda comforts me.

MTV: And you had a big sold-out house last night. You had like, 12, 13 thousand people. What's that like?

Left Eye: It feels like we've accomplished something, to have a full house.

T: At first, it was like no one even knew that we were on tour. People don't understand. You could be one of the biggest stars and no one would ever know [you're on tour]. If it's not publicized, it just goes away.

MTV: So what happened last fall? What happened? What was going on? Why were you guys not getting along? Lisa, talk to me. What happened?

L: It's a normal relationship. It happens.

T: Agree to disagree. I mean, we're not going to agree on every last little thing. But that's life, and we're three human beings, so that's just like reality to me.

C: And three different people. And just sometimes you clash. I don't know if you've ever heard this saying, but they always tell you not to tell your mother -- or for me, not to tell my mom if my boyfriend and I are having a fight, because we're gonna make up, but she'll still be mad. So it's like with us, it's really not cool for everybody outside of us to get involved, because we're gonna be fine.

MTV: So why were you upset, though? You said that you didn't think touring was the right thing for the group to do right now. Why'd you say that?

L: Well, if you know all of that, then you should know why I felt that way. Seriously. Seriously. Seriously.

MTV: Why did you feel that way, though?

L: Well, because it's about making the most out of your money, you know, and that's the bottom line. That's basically it.

MTV: Do you think this tour is a good idea, or do you wish you were not touring right now?

L: Well, I think if we toured for about a year, it would make a little bit of sense. But I think the good thing about this tour is that we get a lot of exposure. We get to promote ourselves. It's not about making big dollars as far as just the touring is concerned. We make our money from outside deals, which... I was a little unpleased with that. But that was my gripe.

MTV: What did it take to get you guys happy with each other again? I read the magazine stories, I saw the stuff. You were really mad. You guys were really angry.

T: We weren't really angry.

MTV: You said, "She doesn't care about us." You said, "Left Eye only cares about Left Eye."

L: Let me ask you a question. Has there ever been a time in your life where you just, you just had a lot on your mind and you just vent it? Only thing is, I've vented before. I vented on Andre [ex-boyfriend Andre Rison] in that paper. I did that in "Sister 2 Sister." It was just timing. I felt really comfortable with who I was doing the interview with, and after that happened, I looked back on it and I said, "Wow." It's cool to vent, but maybe I should've thought about putting it in the paper, because then I felt bad about it after. But we are sisters, you know. I don't care what happens between us. We've been through too much stuff...

T: Yeah, 'cause when you say "mad" like that, it's not to the point. Like, nobody hates nobody. A lot of people say stuff when they're upset, but nobody's mad to the point where [it's] like, "Oh, I'm never gonna talk to her again. She really don't care about me," like that. No one said that. And you can say something and be taken out of a context and put it in a paper wrong. So no one can sit here and say we said certain things, because we never said, like, "She didn't care about us" like that.

MTV: What is it that keeps the three of you together? What is it that's special about the three of you?

L: That kinda stuff. Right? That kinda stuff. One of the things that I had been compla--just, you know, slightly complaining about in the group was, "Let's just tell it all." You know, "Let's tell it. Let's tell them. Even if we have a problem, tell 'em." So one day they decided to tell some stuff, it was about me...

T: See, we got her back. See what it does!

L: Just thinking back on it, it's like, "Okay. Y'all got me. It's cool." But I believe that everything that happens to you as an individual is something that you bring on yourself. And you're supposed to use it as a learning experience and [something to] grow from, so I think for us to have taken that situation and fallen apart behind it, we would have taken a big step backward.

MTV: So what do you think you learned from it? What did you learn from reading some of the things that were said, or some of the conversations?

L: Well, I think I learned that no matter what we go through, it's never big enough to let any, like, outsiders come in and add to it. I mean, our problems are our problems.

T: There's nobody in her camp, my camp, or her camp, like, separate friends. They have nothing to do with what we do. Like, I'll tell my friends quick it's none of their business when it comes to that part of it, because we did this together. My mom, my father, and anybody else who has any other input didn't sing and sweat blood and tears like we did, whether we're getting along together right now or not. You're still not Left Eye or Chilli or T-Boz in TLC when it all comes down to it. And this is our business. And it's like a corporation too so that's how it is.

MTV: Do you think people who have sisters and brothers watch the group -- sometimes you don't get along, and sometimes you do -- and identify with you? They think, "That's just like we are at home." They fight and they still love each other.

T: You have to. You have to. 'Cause any teenage girl knows when you're living with your mom when you're about 15, you're not getting along with your mother. I love my mother to death, but at 15 I was like, aaaaaah!

C: At first we were best friends, and it was everything. But 14 years, those hormones start acting up... but you grow out of that.

T: It's part of growing. It's life. So I think people should stop looking at this music business as a fantasy. It's not. I mean, that's what "Unpretty" and other songs are about. Like, have makeup artists, [but] these are real lives here. No different than sisters who fight, whatever. It's all real. If you stop looking at it like a painted picture, then you can accept it better. And that's what we're living is life.

L: And regardless of how media may take this situation and blow it up, the bottom line is that if we can handle it, whatever goes on outside of us, it doesn't matter. I mean, actually, we need that kind of attention. We do.

MTV: What's it like when you hit the stage like you did last night and you hear that roar? I know you talk about how tired you are and how hard you've worked, but what's that like for you guys when you hear that?

L: It's a boost. It's like a boost of energy.

C: The adrenaline gets pumping.

T: It keeps you on your feet for an hour and a half.

C: You just fall dead when it's all over.

L: It's a real emotional moment too. When twelve thousand people start screaming at the top of their lungs for you and that energy just fills your body... it's like, tears literally come to my eyes sometimes.***
