MTV: We just have T and C today. No L?
Chilli: The L is not feeling good. She is in town, and we were all prepared to come in here together, but she's a little under the weather.
MTV: There's a lot going around right now. Now, K-Ci & JoJo have just signed on to open for you guys on tour. How did that come about? Because we had heard about Christina Aguilera first, and Destiny's Child also...
T-Boz: Actually, you know, as far as Christina's concerned, I guess it was a conflict in scheduling. So we had to look for the next group, and they were available, and politically it just worked for the best.
MTV: They're just on the initial set of dates that were released, right? Or are they on for the whole tour?
Chilli: They're not on the whole tour, they're on the first leg, along with Destiny's Child. In January, that's when Christina is supposed to be on that leg with us.
T-Boz: Second leg! [Laughs] Over in the States in January!
Chilli: We're putting it together, still. We really would love to tour for a very long time, but it's all about, you know, packaging, and hoping that the people that you want are available. So many people are touring right now. Like, with Christina, she's working overseas...
T-Boz: It's very political, if you want to know the truth. It's just very political. There's a lot of different reasons why sometimes people can or can't go.
MTV: Did you guys have a wish list of other people you might want to include on that second leg?
T-Boz: Well, yeah, but I don't want to go through the wish list, because...
Chilli: We don't want to make anybody feel bad.
T-Boz: And plus they're not available, so I'd really be wishin'. [Laughs] You know? Wish on!
MTV: You say you're still working through the aspects of the show, but can you give us a feel for what we can look out for when we come see you?
Chilli: Definitely. We have a beautiful screen, like an oval shape in the center of the stage, up top, and it's just constantly showing stuff. Not just us on the stage, you know. And a lot of lights.
T-Boz: It's very artistic, and it's entertaining. We have to do our dance thing... [Rolls eyes]
Chilli: [It's] a little futuristic. Just very entertaining. Everybody's just gotta come. They've just gotta come see us.
T-Boz: [Serious voice] Yes, support TLC! Come, come! [T laughs]
MTV: Now are you guys a little bit nervous, 'cause it's been a while since you've been on tour? Or is it more exciting?
Chilli: It's a combination of both. I'm nervous, 'cause this is the first time we've ever headlined, and I'm excited, because I've always wanted to headline. I think it's going to work out fine. It's going to be good. I hope that a lot of people come and, word of mouth, more folks will come to the shows in the future.
MTV: Chilli, you have a little son now. This will be the first time you guys will have been on the road since you've been a mom, right?
Chilli: [Smiling] Yes, but that's no problem. I've already worked that out. I will see my son every week. He's only two, and we have him in school already, he goes two days a week, and after that Dallas [Austin], or my mom or his mom, will bring him out, and I'll come home [too]. I've already worked it out. There's no way I could go on that tour the whole time, even go two weeks without seeing my son.
MTV: Do you guys have plans for a third single yet?
T-Boz: Yes, we do.
Chilli: Yes, we do. [Laughs]
T-Boz: Actually, it's kinda two singles.
Chilli: I know! That would be dope if we could just release two at the same time.
T-Boz: Well, I think one's going to be overseas, and one's going to be over here.
Chilli: Well, overseas it's going to be "Dear Lie," and eventually over here. Since we're kicking off the tour, we kinda wanted a video out that's kinda, you know, like... [Dances]
T-Boz: Up-beat, not so slow.
Chilli: Yeah. And the song "Shout" is possibly that single. Enrique Iglesias worked on it.
T-Boz: [And] Sheila E.
Chilli: Sheila E! Yup, Sheila E was in the studio. Dallas Austin, you know, put all the stuff together. It's gonna be awesome. It's gonna be so good. 'Cause T-Boz and Enrique are gonna kinda be, like, going back and forth on the verses.
T-Boz: Yeah, I'm tryin' to make him looove me. [Laughs] Enrique, do me right!
Chilli: He is so cute, ooh! Mmm, mmm, mmm. He is so cute.
T-Boz: I just hope that is going to be the single. We're fighting for it. Come on! We're kinda going back and forth. "Please record company, please let us do this one, then we'll do 'Dear Lie' in the States next!" So, it'll be a toss-up. So if you hear it on the radio, girl, you'll know what happened, okay? [Laughs] I'll put it like that.
MTV: Going back to "Waterfalls" on the last album, I was comparing that a little bit to "Unpretty," in that there's a serious message in that song. Did you guys get any special feedback from fans for "Unpretty?"
T-Boz: [Nods]
Chilli: Oh, yeah.
MTV: Anything you wanted to share with us? Anything in particular that's stuck with you?
T-Boz: It's just the way girls come up to you, and it has such sentimental value, they touch you and go, "Thank you."
Chilli: [Nods] Mm-hmm.
T-Boz: It's like you really touched them and did something in a special way, and that was the whole purpose, for us to help. So I think it's served its purpose.
Chilli: And it's still serving. I mean, I've had guys come up, and that was surprising to me, because when you watch the video and you listen to the lyrics, naturally you'll think that it's just for, you know, females, but it's for everybody. Anybody can feel unpretty and feel that way all the time.
It was very special to me, because I grew up feeling unpretty because I have small breasts. That's why it was so important for me to get that across in the video, and hopefully the young girls won't go out and get those breast implants, because that's a serious deal. That doesn't make you beautiful. And TLC also stands for "T*tty-Less Crew." [Laughs]
T-Boz: [Makes 'flat' motion] Yeah.
Chilli: You are not the president anymore! I'm still the president. Unfortunately. [Laughs]
T-Boz: I've grown a little, you know. [T hugs C] In more places than one, probably. It just happens...
Chilli: She's still in T*tty-Less Crew, trust me.
T-Boz: [I'm] just a little bigger than the "other" T*tty-Less-es. [Laughs]
MTV: I really hope we can use that.
T-Boz: [Big laugh]
Chilli: MTV can use anything!
T-Boz: MTV should! You can say all these other things, I mean, hell-ooo! Marilyn Manson has his buttcheeks out. Prime Time with T*tties, too. I mean, hey, you better let us.
