Static-X Navigation
It's been a big year for Static-X.

As 1999 opened, the band was known only to a rabid but small following in the Los Angeles rock scene that the group had adopted as its home.

However, all the pegs soon began to fall into place for the band: a major label debut on Warner Bros.; a slot on the annual summer metal showcase Ozzfest; a modest rock radio hit; and now a Buzzworthy video on MTV.

It would be easy to attribute the band's momentum to the success that acts like Limp Bizkit and Kid Rock have found. It would be easy, but it would also be wrong. While those groups sprinkle their rock with liberal doses of hip-hop, Static-X is pushing metal in another direction, drawing on influences as diverse as Goth, death metal, and electronica to whip together its self-described "evil disco" sound.

Frontman Wayne Static and drummer Ken Jay (who along with guitarist Koichi Fukuda and bassist Tony Campos make up Static-X) recently took a break from their whirlwind year, which currently finds the band on the road with Megadeth, to talk to MTV about the essentials: their influences, their sound, their stage show, and their "X."

Enjoy...
