MTV: Would [producer] Max Martin talk to you about some of these songs in terms of what their meaning would be, or what their sound would be like? What kind of collaboration do the two of you have right now?

Britney: I basically went into the studio, and there were nine million [songs]. There's nine million wonderful songs out in this world, but the most important thing is if you can go into the studio and make it yours and put your personality into it and put your attitude into it. Thank God that's what I was able to do with those songs. I could totally relate to them. I listened to the words, and I could relate. It just worked out. [RealVideo]

MTV: How does it work? Does he play all these songs for you and say, "Britney, how about this? How about that?" and you go, "That doesn't speak to me?"

Britney: Well, sometimes it's just the melody. He'll just sing the melody to me, and I'm like, "Oh, I like that." As we're in the studio, gradually we do more and more with it. He writes the songs while I'm in the studio. But there were, like, two that were already kind of done up for me.

MTV: We never really get to hear or see Max very much. Max is guy a lot of people are really curious about, and people don't know much about him. What, to you, is special about Max Martin?

Britney: He's funny. He has a very dry sense of humor. He's very cool. I like him a lot as well. Just very easy to talk to, and a very sweet guy, and unassuming as well.

MTV: How did you come up with that little "Titanic" dialogue back and forth that turns up not just on the "Oops!... I Did It Again" track, but on the video also?

Britney: Well, we thought, you know, every song has a [refrain], and we thought it would be cool just to change it up completely and do like a little acting thing, because no one's ever done anything like that.

MTV: That's Max Martin's voice on the record? That's what he sounds like?

Britney: Yeah, that's my voice and his voice.

MTV: There you go. Now, do have an idea of in what order these songs will be videos or singles? Have you chosen that yet? Will you be involved in that process?

Britney: Oh gosh, yes, definitely. I'll totally be involved. But we don't know [the order] right now. I have in mind what I would like, but I would like other people's opinions from the record label.

MTV: Is it important for you to be more involved this time around than the last time? You want more of a say?

Britney: Oh, definitely. Oh gosh, yes. That's already happened in so many ways. Even with the first album, I had a lot of say in a lot of things. I really did.

MTV: One of the things I remember hearing was that the whole concept for "...Baby One More Time" video was something you selected, because you thought the first one was too young. Is that right?

Britney: Yeah, definitely.

MTV: People always think, "Oh, this whole teen pop craze is only going to last five minutes." How is it important for you to show that that won't happen to you?

Britney: I think it really boils down to good music. If you do that, I think you'll be around for a while. Obviously we're doing something that's attracting the public.
