Norris: Then one week after the incident, you had to come out and perform on MTV's New Year's Eve broadcast. Were you excited to do this?
Puffy: I definitely wasn't excited, but the one thing about me is that I'm a fighter. The whole motto of my company is 'We won't stop, can't stop,' and I wasn't going to let the false accusations stop me from doing what I had to do. I'm performing for the fans, and I have to admit that it was my worst show ever because I wasn't 100 percent focused. I wasn't in the greatest mood or spirit, but at the same time it was supportive cause I was there with the MTV family. There were fans giving love, but I ain't even going to front, I was stressed out. I wasn't with Jennifer. she was with her family. She had to make sure that they were all right, and I totally understood that. The millennium was the worst New Years ever.
Norris: Things then started to snowball. Did you feel that the case was going to resolve itself, and were you surprised when it didn't?
Puffy: When you're innocent you think that any second somebody is going to come to their senses, stop the games, and realize that this man did not have a gun. 'We're going to stop the torture and drop the charges.' I think that any hour, I'm going to get a call and everybody is going to realize that it's getting to close to the trial and we don't enough evidenceŠ It's definitely not 'innocent until proven guilty.' That's not the way it feels. It's like you're guilty until proven innocent. I'm not trying to hit the justice system with a low blow, it's just that I'm a human being, I'm a tax payer, I have the right to speak and tell people how I feel, and right now I'm definitely defending that I'm not guilty.
Norris: How has Jennifer been through this, and has it put a strain on you guys?
Puffy: She's been extremely supportive, but it hasn't strained our relationship. It's definitely been stressful. She's just been extremely supportive and it's a blessing that she's the one that's by my side and I thank her for it. [RealVideo]
Norris: Were all the headlines hard on you guys?
Puffy: No. We saw it as people just trying to make a story. We're two human beings. It's not like I'm bad boy and she's good girl. She has a little bit of edge to her also, as far as having fun. She's a human being. We both have our sides. Sometimes she's stern, sometimes she's sweet, and sometimes I'm sweet, and sometimes I'm stern.
Norris: Has this brought you closer together in any way?
Puffy: Yeah it definitely brought us closer together and It's been hard. It hasn't been easy, but it definitely has brought us together.
