Amid the bluster of a teen-pop takeover and all the to-do, hubbub, and furor over studio-born bands that don't write or sing their own songs, the four members of 98 Degrees, no strangers to the world of "Total Request Live" themselves, quietly headed into the studio and "just did it."
Taking the reins in the departments of songwriting and producing, Drew and Nick Lachey, Justin Jeffre, and Jeff Timmons seemingly shut out the who's-got-the-biggest-numbers horserace that overtook the summer of 2000 and poured themselves into "Revelation," an album that sees the group growing up and expanding its horizons rather than relying on tried-and-true songwriters and producers to wave magic hit-making wands over the guys' heads.
As the first single, "Give Me Just One Night (Una Noche)" indicates, the group -- perhaps having realized that too many slow jams tend to make a girl sleepy -- has also cranked out a healthy number of up-tempo tunes for the new LP. But fans needn't worry that the guys have lost sight of what got them on the charts in the first place; as Drew and Nick recently told MTV Radio's Roger Coletti, it's still all about the love.
