KURT: Is the tour that will follow this, I hope, going to be a vast, complex undertaking?
MADONNA: I haven't got a clue. I'm sure I'll set out to do something simple and then it will become a vast and complex undertaking. I've imagined visual elements that I would like to have, but I haven't put the whole thing together, yet. It's going to be a pain in the ass, for sure.
KURT: Is this a major project to sit down and think what old stuff you might
do on tour?
KURT: Nothing at all?
MADONNA: Well, I wouldn't say nothing at all, but I just can't imagine doing stuff like "Like A Virgin" and "Material Girl" and things like that. I don't know who that person is! She's a really sort of Neanderthal version of me. Really amoeba, unformed.
KURT: Do you look back on her as someone you don't like very much?
MADONNA: No, no, no, I'm very fond of her! I just didn't know the impact that I was... I was just clueless. If I had known when I was doing those songs that for the rest of my life I was going to be referred to as... you know...
KURT: The Material Girl!
MADONNA: Yeah -- I just probably never would have done it. I don't even want to sing "Vogue," know what I mean? I feel like that's a hundred years away from me.
KURT: What do you feel like? You're less ego driven now? Or is it more mundane than that?
MADONNA: It's just, songs are like tattoos. They represent a time in your life, and if you feel you've moved on, it's hard to go back there and sing it with feeling.
KURT: Can you go out on the road and just do the new album?
MADONNA: I'd like to. I don't know if I could do that.
KURT: Who would stop you?
MADONNA: Nobody! I'm glad you asked that. [928K QuickTime]
See you when I'm 80, Kurt, and we're in wheelchairs.
KURT: Thanks, Maddy. We'll all be there together, I'm sure.
