| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | "Wild out/if you're glad the L-O-X is Ruff Ryders now," blare Sheek, Styles, and Jadakiss on the lead single from their upcoming album, "We Are The Streets." The promise "No more shiny suits/none of that sh**," kicks off the track "Breathe Easy."Well, the members of The Lox have never been known to mince words. The Yonkers, New York trio, repped by the now-indomitable Ruff Ryders camp when it was a fledgling management operation, signed with Sean "Puffy" Combs' Bad Boy Records at its glittering peak, when the Notorious B.I.G. commanded the attention of underground and mainstream fans alike. Following the still-unsolved murder of B.I.G. in March 1997, Combs the CEO (and imperative video sidekick) went from the boardroom to the studio, releasing the now six-times platinum "No Way Out" with The Family. Six months later, The Lox' first LP, "Money, Power & Respect," was released to stores, but the dominance of "No Way Out" left the trio's debut disc lost in the shuffle and standing in the shadows. The most high-profile exposure the group received in the wake of the release was as support on the rock remix of Puffy's "All About The Benjamins." Something had to give. Taking hold of their Ruff Ryders roots, The Lox joined DMX, Eve, Drag-On, Swizz Beatz, and company for some hardcore rhyme-slinging on the Ruff Ryders compilation "Ryde Or Die, Vol. 1." The disc debuted at number one and helped give a voice to the group's fans, who latched on to the trio's dissatisfaction and gave a name (and a rallying cry) to the group's cause: "Let The Lox Go." The streets had, indeed, spoken. Puff Daddy released the group, which settled with Ruff Ryders/Interscope and recorded "We Are The Streets," their long-awaited and much-anticipated second album, which is due to drop on January 25. Dates on the upcoming Ruff Ryders/Cash Money tour are sure to follow. The trio waxed quite candidly (as they've been known to do) with MTV News' Shari Scorca when she paid a recent visit to the group's Yonkers stomping grounds. They touched on their feelings about Bad Boy then and now, their love for their Ruff Ryders family, and just about everything in between. Get ready to wild out... | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
