| Kid Rock has worked damn hard to get where he is... just ask him.
Better yet, just check out "The History Of Rock," the time-warp trip of an album that the multi-platinum rocker delivers to stores on May 30. The collection of previously recorded material follows the artist formerly known as Bob Ritchie from home-taping teen to an 8 million-selling megastar, capturing every step (and misstep) along the way.
Kid is in promotional overdrive in support of the new album, tapping into the WWF's sizable audience with a performance on May 29's "Raw" and a major summer tour with Metallica, Korn, Powerman 5000, and System Of A Down. Part of Kid's promo run saw him visit with MTV News' Robert Mancini to talk about the album as well as the debut effort from his DJ and collaborator Uncle Kracker. Kid also dished on his tour with Metallica, his days as a dork, and Canadian porn, as you will see...
* * *
MTV News: How long have you known each other, and how long have you been working together?
Uncle Kracker: About 13, 14 years we've known each other.
Kid Rock: Ever since he was pooping in his pants. Yeah, probably about 13, 14 years. Matt was my man, always helping me out... songwriting, paying for McDonald's, whatever needed to be done. I taught him how to DJ. He started back there, started backing me up, which obviously, his voice sounds a lot like mine after singing together for ten years.
A lot of people also don't know that Uncle Kracker also inked a lot of the songs with me on "Devil Without A Cause." He co-wrote "Only God Knows Why," "Wasting Time," "Cowboy," "Bawitdaba," pretty much the whole record. And the interesting thing about his record is that it has very well-written songs... very catchy. It's a little more pop-orientated than mine. He doesn't use so much profanity in his music, I guess you could say. And we did most of the record on the road, on the tour bus, and in hotels. [RealVideo]
MTV: You've already shot a video for 'Yeah, Yeah, Yeah'... what should folks expect from that?
Uncle Kracker: It's a sweet video. It's like a spaghetti western-type video. It goes along with the movie ["Shanghai Noon"]. The movie's kind of spaghetti western-themed. It takes place in, like, the 1880s, but the video is pretty similar as far as where it takes place, you know, walking down dusty old towns.
Kid Rock: Jackie Chan, Owen Wilson [of "Shanghai Noon"] are in it. My sexy ass is in there. You know it.
