When news came from Sydney, Australia, late on Friday November 21 that INXS frontman Michael Hutchence had been found dead in his hotel room before commencing a 20th anniversary tour of his homeland, the music world was shocked at the sudden loss of such a vibrant personality. Hutchence leaves behind an infant daughter, a starring role in a cult film ("Dogs in Space") and a body of classic rock and roll. This feature celebrates Michael's life and his contributions to music -- you'll have to look elsewhere for tabloid trash. We've selected an interview with Michael, Kirk Pengilly and Tim Farriss that was conducted in 1994 just prior to the release of the band's greatest hits album, and some of the videos that helped put INXS -- and MTV -- on the map. |
