"The road is long/with many a winding turn," The Hollies once sang. But hey, it's a hell of a fun place to be when you're hanging with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Foo Fighters.

The two acts hit the road together in March 2000 for an extended North American tour in support of their respective albums "Californication" and "There Is Nothing Left To Lose." MTV News' Bruce McDonald and Liane Su hooked up with the bands when they set foot upon the hallowed soil of Ohio (birthplace of Foo Fighter Dave Grohl, for you trivia buffs), and they discovered that the road trip was chock-full of "games and hi-jinx," as RHCP drummer Chad Smith himself would say.

Between talk of set lists, crowd favorites, and cover songs, the men of the Red Hot Chili Peppers -- frontman Anthony Kiedis, bassist Flea, guitarist John Frusciante, and drummer Smith -- revealed to MTV News that they had nothing but love for the Foos -- especially the band's drummer, Taylor Hawkins, who makes a surprise appearance during the interview.

When MTV News got a hold of the Foos' Grohl, however, the frontman unfortunately was suffering the ill effects of a beer- and karaoke-fueled night on the town with the guys the previous evening. The affable gent wound up bedridden with the flu (and who knows what else), forcing the Foos to cancel the night's performance in Columbus. He still managed to squeak out a brief summary of his feelings about touring with the Chili Peppers, along with a heartfelt apology to fans and a rather graphic explanation of his symptoms... which, in true Grohl fashion, makes for quite an entertaining interview anyway.

You'll find both conversations, as well as plenty of RealVideo performance footage from the tour (including a touching karaoke duet between Dave Grohl and Chad Smith on an old RHCP favorite), right here in our MTV News Online tour feature.
