MTV: Planning to do any recordings with those guys in the future?
D: I'm trying to record with everybody. Cash Money, Ruff Ryders, Roc-A-Fella, everybody. Def Jam, I'm trying to take it there. I'm trying to be the next something crazy, straight up.
MTV: On the production side, you kept everything pretty much in-house, with people like Swizz Beatz.
D: Yeah, I got Swizz Beatz, but my whole album ain't too much of that. I got Swizz Beatz, I got PK, I got Shok, I got Teflon, Iroc. I'm trying to hit them with all different types of flavor. I'm trying to cover every angle. But of course, I got Swizz Beatz, 'cause we all know Swizz Beatz. He's one of the top dogs right now. He's killing them, you know what I'm saying? Respect that kid, word up.
MTV: What inspires your lyrics?
D: Watching videos. I'm gonna keep it real. I watch videos, or I hear somebody else that's nice -- I'm talking about nice, they gotta be nice-nice -- where I'm like, "Whoa, that was crazy." Like [Jay-Z], he just added a new verse to one of his songs and dropped it as a joint. Now, when I heard that, I went back writing. I be like, "Oh, that's flavor," [and] I go back writing.
MTV: Are you guys working on the second volume of the Ruff Ryders "Ryde Or Die" album?
D: Yeah. I got a solo joint on there. I did a joint with Eve, and I might do a joint with Dr. Dre and Eminem, either them or Twista. I'm waiting 'til they lay their verses, Dr,.Dre and Eminem, but they're busy, so it's taking a long time. They're either gonna do it, or I will be doing it with somebody else.
MTV: Ruff Ryder queen Eve appears on your album as well, on "Here We Go." How does it feel to see how well she's doing?
D: It's like I'm watching my sister just do her thing. It's crazy. It's like, we both came from the root, just chilling while everybody else flowers. Now it's like, I watched her blossom, and now I'm starting to blossom. It's all good.
MTV: How was it, working on that track with Eve?
D: Aww man. I came up with the concept or the flow, but it's crazy, though. And we wrote it dumb fast, like, on the real. I'm gonna keep it real. I don't write fast, but when I'm with Eve, we get in there, we knock it down, done in an hour. But when I'm by myself, I write, but I like to take my time. Like, the joint on the [Ryde Or Die Vol. 2] compilation, me and her wrote that joint. You wouldn't believe it, like, in three minutes. It's crazy. So don't be surprised, y'all, if Drag-On and Eve drop an album together. Don't be surprised of that, 'cause it's looking good in that light.
I don't work with everybody. I mean, I worked with X. I love working with X, but it's like, with her, I just feel comfortable. She's like my sister. We tight like that, word up. We just be writing, chilling, smoking... she don't really smoke too much, but I convince her.
MTV: What are some of your long-term goals?
D: I'm just gonna keep it hard, ghetto, street. After the rapping, or while I'm still rapping, I'm going to try to get into the acting. I know I can do it. It's in me, I know it's there. I see it. I feel it. So I really want to try and do that.
MTV: Any final thoughts for your fans?
D: Final thoughts... Straight up, the "Opposite Of H2O." And what I got to say to the people that are not signed yet, "Keep the faith." "Keep the faith" is not just believing in God. I mean, of course, believe in God, but also keep the faith. Know that you gotta do what you gotta do. This is your life. You're here. I know your moms put you here, but know that it's your life. Flame on.
