MTV: Do you guys get worried when Chino dives out into the crowd, and you're going, "Uh-oh, he's not coming back up?" Do you ever think about that? "What are we going to do for the next hour?" Especially like tonight, when he jumps out after the second song.
Moreno: I get scared when I don't think I'm coming back up. If I get out there, sometimes, if the crowd will collapse, and I'll be going down, I'll just like, my life will be flashing in front of my eyes. "Yo, this is it. I'm suffocating." I'm claustrophobic, too, so I just start tripping.
MTV: Someone held you up for, like, two songs in a row when you were out in the crowd. Who was holding you up?
Moreno: That would be Steve. His job is holding people up.
MTV: How does he know when you're about to jump? He just jumps over the barricade?
Moreno: I give him my look.
Carpenter: You know what, though? Like, you ask about him and worry about him, and I never trip on it, because he's been doing it for so long, for so many years, long before I've ever seen anybody jump out into the crowd. The kids, they don't just expect it, but they actually like it when he comes out there. It's just another part of how we interact, when he's out there. They're not going to let him get hurt, they're not trying to hurt him. They're like, "Yeah, man, keep doing it." You know, "Don't stop." [RealVideo]
MTV: Do you ever worry about fans getting hurt? Like, if you see people hyperventilating because it's way too hot? Because you guys are onstage, moving around, you're dripping from head to toe...
Moreno: I'll stop the show. If they're getting f***ed up, I'll stop it, I'll stop the song if I see that, somebody that's completely out of it. I'd hate to be that person, for real. You're supposed to go to a show to have a good time, not to leave with wounds, or leave on a stretcher or something. It's kind of hard to see everybody out there or pay attention. But if we do notice anything, like somebody getting roughed up or somebody passed out, it's like, stop the show.
MTV: Your shows are so intense. I had to use the bathroom, and I was doing the pee-pee dance for about 20 minutes, I had to go so bad. I'm waiting by the door backstage, thinking nobody's going to be back there in the bathroom, and the door's wide open, and Abe's making love to the toilet.
Cunningham: I wasn't. I had some gastrointestinal problems.
MTV: Was it because it was so hot and intense?
Cunningham: I was dousing my face with lovely, clean water.
