3. And this year, the judges aren't the only ones quarrelling.
Producers like to say "Idol" isn't a reality show and thus doesn't follow the finalists into their living quarters. So fans have always gotten their drama fix from the audition and "Hollywood" rounds, where cameras are all around the hotels. Early buzz this year suggests subplots that play out with all the conniving, backstabbing and jealousy of an episode of ... well, any other reality show.
Previous seasons have featured a few clashes when the singers were grouped into trios in the quarterfinals, but apparently that was nothing compared to what happens this time around.
"I think the kids this time probably want this worse than ever and there's quite a bit of interesting fighting and dialogue going on amongst the contestants," Randy Jackson revealed. "It's actually pretty funny that it's come so early this time."
"I was shocked," added executive producer Nigel Lythgoe. "There's no pussy-footin' around this year."
