[Editor's note: In the movie, 50's character, Marcus, goes to the hospital after being shot and his girlfriend Charlene tells the doctors not to perform a tracheotomy.]
"That was true but it was my grandmother. [When I got shot] my tongue swelled up. The [bullet] fragment went into my tongue. My grandmother made them wait three days before they could do the operation in my mouth, because they put the hole in your throat and it will alter your voice. They was telling her that I would possibly have a raspy sound in my voice and not be able to sound the same. My grandmother knew that I would pretty much be no good without the opportunity to rap. It would've discouraged me to the point where I would have just been in the street."
