Electronic pop outfit Wedlock was formed in 2004 by Paul Allgood and Jeff Hathaway. They released the Matrimony EP in 2006 on Kounterfeit Records, and two singles, "Cuts Both Ways", and "Discopharma" in 2007, before pursuing different musical directions. Hathaway formed The Beat Guild with Emory Fluornoy while Allgood formed a live band along with keyboardist Jj Kidder. Bassist Kirk Bryson and drummer Ana Mitchell completed their line up. In April of 2008, their full length debut Exogamy was released on Kounterfeit. Shortly after, Kidder and Bryson left the group. They were quickly replaced by Baxter Smith on keyboards, and Lee Whitsel on bass. Ana Mitchell departed shortly before the recording sessions for their follow up had begun in earnest. "Black Sundress" was released in May of 2009 followed by the full length, Continuity, in autumn that same year. January 2010 saw the release of The Blameless Ep by Richmond, VA based singer Bryanna Rain with Paul Allgood and Wedlock as writer and producer. Wedlock's own EP "Witnesses," was released that summer before a hiatus during which Allgood formed a short-lived experimental project with multi-instrumentalist Jason Bowden as Celadon Candy. By spring 2011 Allgood had resumed writing material specifically for Wedlock this time with keyboardist Chris Scendo, and some of their demo work has surfaced online.
