About Vitor Ramil

Younger brother of composers/singers Kleiton and Kledir, Vitor Ramil had compositions recorded by several interpreters, among them Gal Costa ("Estrela, Estrela" in her Fantasia) and Zizi Possi. He has worked with names such as Egberto Gismonti, Wagner Tiso, Hélio Delmiro, and Márcio Montarroyos. His first solo album came at 18, Estrela, Estrela (1981), and had special participation by Egberto Gismonti, Wagner Tiso, Luis Avellar, Zizi Possi, and Tetê Espíndola. In 1984, he released the experimental A Paixão de V Segundo Ele Próprio, which had its "Semeadura" re-recorded by Mercedes Sosa. In the next year, he went to Rio de Janeiro RJ, where he recorded Tango with Nico Assumpção, Hélio Delmiro, Márcio Montarroyos, Leo Gandelman, and Carlos Bala. He has also written books, among them Satolep and Pequod, the latter having received the Açorianos prize. Dedicated to a fusion of folkloric elements (he is of gaúcho origin, from the extreme South), he dedicated his fifth album Ramilonga (A Estética do Frio (1997) to the milonga, a genre shared by Rio Grande do Sul state and neighbor countries Uruguay and Argentina, which decisively influenced the esthetics of his state. Tambong (2000), with the participation of Egberto Gismonti, Lenine, Chico César, and João Barone, was released simultaneously in Brazil and Argentina (in a Spanish version). ~ Alvaro Neder, Rovi
