Pandit Vikash Maharaj (born 1957) is an Indian musician, a player of the sarod.
Background and career:
Vikash Maharaj is from the 14th generation of musicians in the Banaras Gharana in Varanasi, India. He was originally trained in the tabla and began learning the sarod from Rajesh Chandra Moitra of Maihar Gharana and within six months he was the youngest sarod performer of All India Radio Varanasi graded artists.
He belongs to a family of musicians such as his grandfather Bade Ramdas, Kanthe Maharaj, father Nanhku Maharaj and uncle Kishan Maharaj.
Vikash runs the Music Institute of Benares in Varanasi, India. He has also been working as a professor or visiting professor in several overseas universities in Germany, Austria, France, Holland and the United States.
