Until Extinction was originally formed near St. Louis, MO (USA) as a studio project to record songs written by guitarist Jake Thiele. It soon blossomed into a full band, and their debut album “Lament” was released in March 2010. The band then began playing shows in support of the album, booking four of their first five shows with national acts, including In This Moment (Century Media), Kataklysm (Nuclear Blast), Vampire Mooose (Rotten), Pathology (Victory), and Abigail Williams (Candlelight). The band’s sound is best described as “Dark Tranquillity meets Nightwish,” occupying the “progressive” or “melodic death” metal subgenres, but for Until Extinction, variety and departure from the mundane and generic are the keys to their success. Songs transition seamlessly from one end of the metal spectrum and back again, maintaining listeners’ interest without sacrificing heaviness. Their second full-length album is due out in summer 2013.
