Is to create unpretentious pop songs that make you feel cool, makes you wanna dance and spontaneously scream “YEAH”.
Is untamed drumbeats, overusing the floor tom, energetic guitars, handclaps, shout backs and catchy melodies that stick.
Comes from sexual frustration, broken hearts and bands such as ACDC, ABBA, The Strokes, Arcade Fire, Clap your hands say Yeah and The Technicolors.
The almost-brothers and childhood friends Martin Nordvall and Mathias Näslund formed The Sweet Serenades in 2002. Although their romantic story begun much earlier. The year was 1991 and the location was a classic there’s-nothing-to-do-village in the north of Sweden. A ten year old and slightly overweight Martin was sitting on a bench eating a snack, when he suddenly saw a new kid strolling down the street. The stranger talked to himself, made funny voices and was kicking an empty beer can around. Their eyes met.
-What’s your name?
-Martin. What’s yours?
-Mathias. Wanna play?
From 2006-2009 The Sweet Serenades was touring Swedish prisons, trying out new material and dancing with the inmates. The restless and inpatient audience left the room whenever the songs didn’t fit them. Martin and Mathias adapted and threw away all songs that didn’t work. This became a natural part of creating the high energy pop the band is playing today. Up until now The Sweet Serenades have made more than 100 shows to entertain Swedish convicts.
Their album debut “Balcony Cigarettes” was released in 2009 and was warmly welcomed by music blogs and Indie lovers all over the world. The band made a European tour and was featured in various indie movies. In 2010 their song “Die Young” was heard on ABCs hit drama “Grey’s Anatomy”. The money they earned was well spent. Martin went to the dentist, Mathias bought a dog and together they invested in a band trailer. A place to hang out, write songs and discuss the meaning of life.
"Help Me!" - The second album from The Sweet Serenades was released in September 2012. They are now working on a four song EP named "Stand by Me". To be released on vinyl in the fall of 2013.
