Formed in 2001, San Diego’s The Stereotypes have spent the past 11 years making music their own way. Following their muse and cranking out concise honest records. Founding members John Finkbiner and Mike Kamoo have created a classic sound that mines late-60's psych-pop, garage-rock, and 80's post-punk. The songs are short and well crafted, meshing hook laden pop with a lo-fi swagger. The recordings maintain a D.I.Y. aesthetic and have all been self-produced. With 15 releases to their credit, the focus has been on writing and recording quickly to keep up with their prolific nature. Little attention has been paid to promo shots and videos, so it should be no surprise the band is still considered a well kept secret. Truth is, The Stereotypes are one of the most licensed independent bands around. ST’s music has been placed in over 30 television shows and commercials in recent years, most recently heard in VW and Blue Moon commercials and MTV's 'Underemployed'.
