About Sybreed

Sybreed (a portmanteau of "synthetic" and "breed") is an industrial metal band from Geneva, Switzerland. History edit: Sybreed was formed in 2003 by vocalist Benjamin Nominet and guitarist Thomas Betrisey; they had previously worked together in a band called Rain. In 2004, Sybreed released their debut album, Slave Design. Most of the tour promoting this album was conducted in Europe, with some dates scheduled in the United States. In early 2006, drummer Alex left the band due to creative and personal issues. During a brief hiatus, Dirk Verbeuren of Soilwork and Scarve agreed to do session drums while Sybreed recorded its next album. After production was completed, Kevin Choiral was confirmed as the band′s new permanent drummer. On July 7, 2007, it was announced that the band had signed a deal with Listenable Records for a European release of their new album Antares in October of that year. The album was released on August 15, 2008, in the United States, but included a bonus track, "Plasmaterial." On June 29, 2009, Sybreed′s official website announced that the band's bassist, Burn, would part company with the band. Although it was originally stated on the website that Burn would still participate in their US tour beginning July 17, 2009, he did not make the trip to the US. Instead they enlisted bass player Hector Gonzalez, a member of the Los Angeles, California, thrash band Flatline as a temporary bassist to complete the United States tour. At the completion of the tour, in an update on their website dated August 31, 2009, Sybreed confirmed Stephane Grand as their new permanent bass player. The band released their third studio album The Pulse of Awakening in Europe on November 16, 2009. On April 7, 2010, Sybreed′s song "Doomsday Party" was released as a downloadable track on Rock Band. It was announced on October 9, on the official website that the band would embark on their first Australian tour, with main support act Anno Domini. On December 12, 2011, Sybreed started recording their fourth album God Is An Automaton with the mixing scheduled for April 2012 in Los Angeles with Rhys Fulber. It was released on September 24, 2012, in Europe and October 2, 2012, in North America, through Listenable Records. On October 28, 2012, Thomas "Drop" Betrisey said in a comment on Sybreed's Facebook page that the official "The Line Of Least Resistance" music video (filmed in Paris earlier same year), is to be released in November. A live video of "No Wisdom Brings Solace" will follow after this. Musical style edit: Sybreed′s musical style has been dubbed by the band's own members "death wave" -- a portmanteau of death metal and New Wave. This style combines various components and influences of extreme metal and progressive metal, and incorporates futuristic melodies and groove-based rhythms synthesised with prominent electronic music elements, such as trance, ambient and dark wave. The band also utilizes complex time signatures, polyrhythmic composition, blast beats, sampling, and keyboard effects. Their vocal work makes use of electronically distorted clean vocals, death growling, and heavily distorted, high-pitched screams reminiscent of black metal. Their third album, The Pulse of Awakening, demonstrated experimentation with symphonic metal, synthrock and industrial rock influences, utilizing synthesised orchestra and techno beats, and featuring some use of vocoder. Sybreed state their musical influences to include Fear Factory, Meshuggah,Strapping Young Lad, In Flames, Katatonia, Soilwork, Front Line Assembly, Nine Inch Nails, and European synthrock bands, such as Depeche Mode. Members edit: Current members Benjamin Nominet -- vocals (2003-present), Thomas "Drop" Betrisey -- guitars, programming (2003-present), Kevin Choiral -- drums (2007-present), Ales Campanelli -- bass (2012-present), Former members Luis "Burn" Da Silva Cruz -- bass (2003-2009), Alex Anxonnia -- drums (2003-2006), Stéphane Grand -- bass (2010-2011), Session musicians Dirk Verbeuren -- drums (on Antares)
