Rock & Roll
In 1977 Player was born in Los Angeles. Eventually developing a mainstream "blue eyed soul" style, their tight rhythm section and layered harmonies seemed to fit right in to the breezy L.A. sounds of the time. Player is best known for their huge 1978 hit "Baby Come Back", which stayed at number one on Billboard's hot 100 charts for three weeks. The band's first album simply entitled "PLAYER" went platinum. "Baby Come Back" has become a recognized classic. The second single "This Time I'm In It For Love" reached number eleven on Billboard. Four more Player albums were released over the next few years producing three more top forty hits. The band toured extensively with such classic artists as Boz Scaggs, Eric Clapton, Heart, Gino Vanelli, and Kenny Loggins; playing always to sold out arena audiences. During the early 80's, the band members went their separate ways to pursue solo careers. Lead vocalist Peter Beckett began writing hit songs for many artists including: Heart, Olivia Newton-John, Kenny Rodgers, Poco, The Temptations, Janet Jackson, The Commodores, and more recently Vanessa Hudgens of "High School Musical" fame. He has also garnered many movie credits as artist, producer and/or writer. These include: 'The Karate Kid', 'Two of a Kind', 'Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure', 'Major League', 'St Elmo's Fire' (earning a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year in 1986), 'Frankie and Johnny', 'Rock Star', 'Basic', 'Termininator 3', 'Beyond Borders', 'Life or Something Like It', 'Dirty Dancing 2'. Bass player Ronn Moss took on an acting career as Ridge Forrester, the male lead in the daytime CBS TV drama "The Bold and the Beautiful", which he still continues today. He has also made many feature films such as 'Hearts and Armour', 'Hard Ticket To Hawaii', 'Christmas in Love', and his latest accomplishment 'Her Morbid Desires'. Player received a great response to their Swiffer TV commercials and the many movies that have featured "Baby Come Back"of late, such as: ' Transformers', 'Date Movie', and "A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints". Peter Beckett and Ronn Moss, along with newest band members Rob Math(guitar), Johnny English(keyboards), and Craig Pilo(drums), are back together again as PLAYER and gearing up to release their latestest CD in February 2013 'Too Many Reasons' on Frontiers Records label, followed by a tour.
