The adage that states that what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger hits home for Long Island indie/pop-rock quartet Persona. Prior to the band’s foundation in the summer of 2011, the members spent the best part of the last decade not only developing their craft in various bands, but also forming the character and determination that makes the band who they are today. “We write songs about events that have happened in our lives. Our songs are about overcoming our struggles and telling a story; they’re literally what makes us who we are, collectively,” states singer Tom Spartinos. Indeed, the struggle has been very real in recent years, with a car accident nearly taking drummer Sam Trestman’s life and a fire destroying guitarist Costas Themistocleous’ home as well as the band’s home recording studio. As Themistocleous explains; “We have a strong connection together and the experiences we’ve shared fuel us to progress together. Our name symbolizes our diverse personalities and that portrays itself through our music too. We have two sides to us - an up-tempo and uplifting pop-rock side and a darker, more progressive indie-rock side.”
Indeed, the layered indie-rock sound that Persona has cultivated shines in the band's debut release, 'Take Me To The Moon'. Released in late 2012, the EP is rich with crisp harmonies and nostalgic melodies, with songs such as the buoyant opener "Ready, Set, Go" and the sternly determined title-track "Take Me To The Moon" acting as stand-outs on the self-produced release, the first in a trilogy of three EPs in the pipeline. "We want to impact people with our music. We want to make people reflect and ponder, and we want to spread positive messages. There is always room for positive vibes and good feeling, and we want to spread that with our music and personalities," adds Spartinos. The band is currently writing new material and planning numerous local and national tour dates for spring 2013 and beyond.
