About Melissa Otero
Born in New Jersey and raised in Puerto Rico, Melissa worked hard and elicited the help of famed vocal coaches Sandra Quintana, Mike St. Pierre, and Don Lawrence, who has worked with stars like Lady Gaga and Whitney Houston. She also took acting, piano, and dance classes for over ten years. All of this experience helped her first single "My First Everything" to become extremely successful. The single, which was released in 2006, was #1 for two consecutive weeks on Hot 96 in Portland, Oregon. Fueled by the excellent feedback that critics gave her first single, Melissa began to work on her first album. In 2008, she released this album entitled "My Spirit" which included the single "10:40pm" that became a hit in Europe, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and Colombia. Because of these successes, Melissa was approached by Karate America of Little Chute, WI and asked to go on her first tour as part of a benefit concert series for the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. After successfully finishing this tour, Melissa continued to perform at local venues in New York City and New Jersey for the remainder of the year.
During the summer of 2010, Melissa embarked on a promo tour in Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Florida, New Jersey, and New York where she performed at festivals such as Pompano Beach Latin Fest, Carnaval de Loiza Aldea, Carnaval del Barrio, and PR Day Parade. During that time, she also made several television appearances and participated in numerous radio interviews. In that same year Melissa met famed record producer Clay Ostwald in Miami. Mr. Ostwald had worked with Gloria Estefan, Melissa's initial inspiration, so the meeting seemed fateful. Together Clay and Melissa produced a new version of her single “Phantom of My Heart” in both English and Spanish. "Phantom" went on to be a huge success in the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and Florida.
The end of 2010 brought fresh insight and inspiration. Melissa began working on a new song entitled "Angels and Demons." Producer Stefan Moessle of Secret Sounds created the musical arrangement that accompanies the song. They worked hard to create a dark and sexy sound that would captivate Melissa’s fans. By April 2011, she was on a cross-country tour to promote the new song, visiting several northern states in America and showcasing other new tracks as well. The promotion of her new songs was extremely effective as "Angels and Demons" was later selected to be a part of the Sonicbids Indie Showcase on US Airways as a featured track.
Currently, Melissa continues to write new music, working with several famed songwriters in preparation for recording her new studio album due out in 2012. She is releasing a song in April 2012 with a music video directed by Nick Testa of Devil's Tail Productions that will be distributed on iTunes and VEVO. She is also preparing for a summer tour, which will include visits to Wisconsin, New York, New Jersey and Europe.
