The band started in 2004 when Matt and Kim were art students at the prestigious Pratt Institute, where they studied film and illustration, respectively. When Kim wanted to learn to play drums and Matt, who'd been in bands before, was getting his head around a new keyboard, the band was born.
The indie dance duo, known for their insanely energetic live shows, have played tons of US festivals like Coachella, Lollapalooza, and Bonnaroo, along with international festivals, and hundreds of shows, including a performance at the legendary Madison Square Garden. They’ve also won three MTV awards: an MTV VMA and an mtvU Woodie Award for “Lessons Learned” and a 2011 OMA award for Best Live Band. Their upbeat, stick-in-your-head track "Daylight," is certified Gold and on its way to Platinum, having sold over 900,000 copies.
The band's fourth and most recent full album, Lightning, was released in October 2012, accompanied by singles “Let’s Go” and “It’s Alright”. The album spawned a remix album, released a year later, aptly titled Lightning Remixes.
Lightning is the follow-up to the band’s 2010 and 2009 albums, Sidewalks and Grand, respectively. All five albums have been released via FADER Label. Matt and Kim’s self-titled debut was released in 2006 via IHEARTCOMIX.
