About Matt Brouwer

Canadian-native Matt Brouwer made his debut in the Spring of 2001 with his Reunion Records release Imagerical. The once praise and worship leader turned CCM artist relies heavily on a combination of pop and adult contemporary stylings to communicate his gospel-based message.

Growing up on a dairy farm in the Canadian providence of Nova Scotia, Brouwer is the sixth of seven children. It was not until high school that he became interested in pursuing a musical career, going on to study music at Prairie Bible College in Alberta, Canada. While in college, Brouwer and fellow music majors began a worship night called MNW (Monday Night Worship). The weekly service soon grew from 20 people a week to hundreds of participants. After graduating in 1998, Brouwer and fellow MNW band members received performance requests from colleges and church worship services. They began a road tour in April 1999. It was not long before the group was contacted by Christian record labels. In 2000, Brouwer signed a solo deal. The other members of MNW opted to remain in the band without the constraints of a contract. ~ Ashleigh Kittle, Rovi
